I'd say the click track starts from exactly when you hit play even if you've hit play not right on the beat. There might be a setting or preference that can fix this.

It sounds like the hard drive has failed... cheap test, get another and reformat the new one. They are so inexpensive now. To avoid losing data, they lock things up if anything goes wrong. The unit probably can't get the ready signal from the drive and freezes...

The button will either be a switch type with a small switch actuated by the button or a conductive rubber pill that is pressed against circuit traces on the board. The latter you can clean with 99% isoprophyl alcohol and Q tips. The switch type you probably have to replace the switch as the internal contacts have likely worn. Often these switches are very small and take a lot of force given the size of buttons that actuate them. Unsoldering from the board takes care to NOT damage the circuit board and the pads. Make sure the new switch is held tightly to the board before soldering in place.

You can run to mic connectors but will probably have to turn down the trims. DO NOT run the drum machine at too low a volume as the signal to noise ratio will suffer. Best to attenuate at the mixer.

You can download a manual from the tascam site for this model. as long as you pre-named your songs, they should show in the menu without mastering. You cannot burn any songs without mastering your songs first, however. They will not appear in the create cd section for this very reason.

Yes, you should be able to go direct into the recording input if your guitar has a preamp in it and the 2488 may have adequate gain to even accept the input from a passive guitar.

It sounds like you have either a hard drive failure or have lost the internal operating system in your unit.
BE VERY careful if you have critical data as it still might be recoverable.
I would contact the factory on this one.

How can i assign diferent effects to indivdual
It's tough. For all that TASCAM touts this is not a user friendly system. I find that assigning compression to one track, removes my reverb from every track. It seems only one effect can be used at a time, and that effect effects them all. Tascam sucks. Never again!
Where can I get knobs for a Tascam 2488 MKII.
I get a CAUTION sign when I boot up that says:
Cannot Boot! Not Detect HDD Correctly. Please POWER OFF , and Check H/W..." Can anyone assit me with resolving this problem
