Campbell Hausfeld 04 Gallon Twin Stack Compressor HL5502 - Page 6 Questions & Answers
Am out of oIL to put in a campbell hausfeld 20 gallon 4.5horsepower air compressor
Google the model number, download a copy of the owner's manual, follow directions. Try searching that model number at harborfreight.com If the manual does not exist anymore, and the pump has a sight glass, fill with clean, non-detergent straight 30wt motor oil, available at most car parts stores. If there is no sight glass, drain what is in there and pour in 1/2 qt. No promises that is right, but it is likely close. Last option, go to a Harbor Freight store. Look for a compressor with a pump that looks like yours on size and shape. look at that manual and use that amount of oil. Good luck

I have a Campbell hausfeld air compressor and it turns on and fills up to about 90 psi then turns off and wont turn back on not even to refill the tank if I unplug it for 30 mins it will turn back on
The electric motor probably has an automatic resetting overload. Most likely what is happening is that as the pressure increases so does the load on the motor. When it gets to a certain point the motor overload opens the circuit and the compressor stops and won't restart until it has cooled down and reset itself. The overload is sensitive to both current and temperature; it is inside the motor housing and may look something like this:
The most likely cause of your problem is low voltage due to too small wire or too long of a wire run to the motor. Other things to check are dust and dirt in the motor not letting it cool properly, too much friction in the compressor, restriction in the compressor outlet, bad connections anywhere in the electrical system from the main breaker panel all the way to the motor including the pressure switch at the compressor; worn motor bearings [or compressor bearings].
