My computer was working the crashed Initially it

Typically; it's the boot sector of the hard drive that fails. That's why it asked for the OS disk. If it won't even boot now; but appears to charge OK, then you are correct in suspecting the motherboard... could be over heating. You're beyond what you can trouble shoot and it needs to be looked at by a technincian

My laptop worked fine on

Hi At some point if you can get the computer to stay up for a while, you should go into control panel and check your POWER settings. The other thing you should try if you haven't already is to shut the computer off and pull out the battery. Then after a minute re-install the battery and see if that helps. Good Luck Joe ps: If I come up with any ideas I will post.

Crystal eye webcam download

Try updating the drivers to your web cam device. If that does not work out try finding more information, if you find error numbers or error messages you can identify the problem a little better. If you are using the software that came pre-installed for the web cam you can also try to download a different program that is integrated for all different webcams, such as ManyCam.

Unable to detect cdrom after crash / reinstall

hpweb_1-2_minus.gifCheck the Windows Device ManagerDevice Manager is a Windows program that displays hardware devices installed on your computer that are currently recognized by Windows. If functioning properly, each piece of hardware has a corresponding entry in the Device Manager. If a piece of hardware is not listed, then there is a problem. There can be a variety of reasons, ranging from the easy-to-fix (such as missing or corrupted device drivers) to the more serious (such as broken or malfunctioning hardware). If your drive does not appear in Windows Explorer or there is no response from the operating system when you insert a disc, then you should check for an entry in Device Manager. This indicates whether there is a problem or not, and sets the stage for subsequent troubleshooting actions. To verify that the optical drive is listed in the Device Manager:
  1. Remove any discs that may be present from the disk drive.
  2. Click Start , type device into the search field, and then select Device Manager from the list.
  3. In the Device Manager window, expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives entry. There should be a name listed for each installed drive. If the drive is not listed or the DVD/CD-ROM drives entry does not exist and you have verified that it is listed in the BIOS , continue to the next troubleshooting item. reinstall the default device drivers Device drivers are software processes that allow Windows to use the computers hardware components. If the device driver fails or becomes corrupted, then Windows cannot properly communicate with the drive; in fact, it may not even recognize that the drive is connected at all.
Another common source of disk drive problems is that the correct device driver may have been inadvertently replaced with an incompatible one (for example, a generic driver for optical disk drives mistakenly installed by a third-party DVD burning program). In most cases, device driver problems like these can be resolved by reinstalling the default drivers and then installing any driver updates provided by HP. To reinstall the default device drivers:
  1. Click Start , right-click Computer , and then select Properties .
  2. In the System pane, click Device Manager link. If prompted, allow the computer to access the Device Manager.
  3. In Device Manager, click the plus sign c02993920.jpg (in Vista) or the arrow c02993921.jpg (in Windows 7) next to the type of driver you want to uninstall and reinstall (for example., Modems, DVD/CD-ROMs, and so on), unless a minus sign (-) is already showing.
  4. Right-click each listed driver one at a time and click Uninstall . When prompted, confirm that you want to uninstall the selected drivers. Do not restart the PC In the Device Manager pane, select any listed device and click the Scan for hardware changes button (near the top). Windows scans your system for hardware and installs default drivers for anything that requires drivers.
    1. Open Device Manager and verify that your device drivers are listed once again.
    2. After the device drivers have been reinstalled and appear in Device Manager, try running your program again.NOTE:Some devices may require your computer to restart. Windows will notify you when restarting is necessary. Save all open files and allow the computer to restart.
If reinstalling the default drivers does not correct the problem, continue to the next troubleshooting item.

Laptop keeps shutting off,fan is

When the CPU in the computer or laptopoverheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot upagain until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then theCPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

I can see the POWER

Try finding an external monitor and hooking it up via the VGA port on the side of the computer. Once it's hooked up, hold down the function (Fn) key and find and press the key for external monitors (usually it's F4 or F6). It will probably look like two little squares with an arrow between them. Press that button a few times (waiting about 5 seconds between presses, and continuing to hold the Fn key) to see if anything shows up on the monitor. If so, then it's probably something to do with your backlight.

Sometimes what happens is your LCD backlight/backlight inverter stop working. These can be purchased and replaced, but it's not a very easy procedure. If you see something on the monitor let me know and I can try to help you with the disassembly process/ordering process.

If this doesn't solve the problem, then I would suggest that there was an issue with your motherboard, in which case you would usually hear some beeps on start-up. The beep codes will help you diagnose what's wrong. If you comment back with the beep codes (if this is the case, that is), I can look them up for you and see what you've got going on.

Hope I helped!
