It could be that the battery is at it's full charge. Do you have the correct power adapter plugged into the laptop? Is the battery older than 2.5 to 3 years? Deplete the battery by unplugging the power adapter and letting the laptop use up the battery and shutdown. Then plug the adapter back in and power up the laptop. Does it say charging now?

Did you get the charger with it? Charge the battery first before you use it.

Your Battery is basically dead. They only have a useful life then have to be replaced. Yours is at the end of it's useful life.
