On the right-hand side near the cd rom drive, there is a switch that moves back and forth. move it towards the back of the computer. that should turn on your wireless capabilities. A wi-fi manager screen should pop and and you should be good to go.

My wife's Inspiron 1525 screen goes black after

My wife's Inspiron 1525 screen goes black after being on for a short while. It does not do this when on battery power. I believe it must have something to do with the amount of power the LCD is receiving. Is there a fix or do I need to purchase a new screen?

You most likely have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

I am also experiencing the same problems. I am also running a Dell Inspiron 1525. The hard disk Diagnostic reported many errors with the hard disk drive. I have been unable to boot to a cd or my nic card. The only solution i see from here is to replace the hard drive....Not what I want...but i have no choice.

If you have error codes from the diagnostics, then your drive is failing or has already failed.

Check with Dell to see if you still have a warranty on it. It is covered, if your warranty is still in effect.

Booting to the CD requires that in the Boot Up (BIOS) that you have selected the CD as a bootable item - and that there is something to boot TO in the drive...

How do I turn on wireless capabilities for a Dell Inspiron 1525?

I don't have a switch on my computer. They say I have to look at the manual for a function key combination. But I can't find any.
Does someone know how to fix this problem.
Or does someone know the function key combination?

Rebuild the BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool If the previous method does not resolve the problem, you can rebuild the BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer. 2. Press a key when you are prompted. 3. Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next. 4. Click Repair your computer. 5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next. 6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt. 7. Type Bootrec /RebuildBcd , and then press ENTER. • If the Bootrec.exe tool runs successfully, it presents you with an installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type Yes . A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully. • If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order in which they are presented. Press ENTER after each command. Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old Bootrec /rebuildbcd 8. Restart the computer.
