Need to find the wireless radio on my computer, and the "switch" to turn it off/on. can you help me??

Wireless radio (wireless LAN) switch is located along the slim front edge of the laptop at the right-hand end. It is an actual on/off switch. It is clearly shown in the diagram on Page 14 of the User Guide: https://docs.sony.com/release/VGNNR400series.pdf

Sony vaio online help

There is usually a button on wireless routers that puts them in to "discover" mode. You did not mention the wireless router you have so you'll need to locate the button on it by a visually looking for it or reading the manual. Once it's in this mode, you extender should begin to communicate with it and vice versa. Although not a requiredment...it is highly recommended to have the extender and your wireless router from the same manufacturer. Mixing and matching will probably lead to miscommunications of both devices.

Need to get winVista Home from Sony Vaio VGN-NS230E recovery disks to new 1TB HDD

Could be a recovery partition. Could be hard drive software partition. Could be junk. Leave it and have an extra 10GB drive later. Or, delete it and take advantage of the space. If the recovery recreates it you will know where it came from. On a side note, I suggest partitioning the 1TB drive. Make a OS partition, and possible 2 other partitions. It will help with defrag and keep your important files out of the OS side in case another recovery is required.

I am trying to restore

1. For Error 320 or 330 , if possible, run the RAM hardware diagnostics to determine if the RAM has failed.
2. Disconnect all external hardware that is attached to the computer.
3. Reset the BIOS to the factory defaults.
4. If the RAM passes the test, only the HDD requires service.
This error also may occur if you are performing a system recovery on a new unformatted hard drive or if sector 0 of the hard drive was cleaned.
Select the "Restore Complete System" option from teh recovery discs and during the installation wizard choose YES for the option "Do you want to keep the factory default hard drive size?".

Laptop: Sony Vaio Serial Tag: C3LRMD7Q Model:

Hi,

The VAIO Model VGN-NR498E/S is shipped with Recovery partition in the hard drive. It is required to create the recovery discs as soon as you get the notebook. Using either recovery discs or the recovery center you can reinstall the preinstalled OS in the computer. But, it depends if you has changed the preinstalled OS, the recovery partition will be erased and no longer be accessible.

However, in your case, if you not made any changes to the preinstalled OS, restart the computer and press and hold the F10 key. this will launch the recovery tools. On the next screen, press Enter key. Then you will be able to view options such as "Restore C Drive", "System Restore" etc. There select "Restore C Drive" to reinstall the preinstalled Vista OS in the Computer.

If you have changed the preinstalled OS in the computer, then it is requires to purchase the recovery discs from Sony's parts center:

https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/productSearch.do?searchOperation=partSearch&searchText=Y8318272A&sessionId=pfBoWO6gh7vj_fseXl4oiMI

The above part is no longer available with them However, you can use the part #Y8318272A to search for the recovery discs with online retailers and others.

Thanks!!!!

How to replace keyboard on sony vgn-nr498e, broken

If you have the new keyboard, look at the bottom and locate the screw sockets. On the laptop at the bottom, match and locate the approximate location of where each screws are mounted. Remove only those screw. On some laptops, you might need to remove the keyboard top frame - if they are mounted with screws, remove them as well. Some laptops have a small picture or symbol of a keyboard for each screw that needs to be removed on the bottom of the laptop.

My Sony Vaio VGN-NR498E laptop

A dim laptop lcd screen is either the result of 1) a faulty inverter which is a separate piece from the lcd screen or 2) a burned out backlight which is part of the lcd screen. In the majority of instances, the inverter is the cause of the problem and not the backlight as most people tend to assume and therefore does not require the purchase of a lcd screen.
I have done some research and it seems you can fetch a new inverter for around $59.00

Need updated bios for sony vaio vgn-nr160e/s

Hi danessta,

You can download the BIOS Update for the VGN-NR160E/S from the below link.

ftp://download.sony.com/US/pc/PHBSYS-14612500-US.EXE

Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!

During the installation of this update:
  • Do not turn the computer off.
  • Do not allow the computer to enter Standby or Hibernation states.
  • Do not start other programs.
  • Do not connect any peripherals.
Also please make sure that you're installing the Update for the correctly Computer Model.

The Model # of the Computer can be confirmed from the System Information Window. To open the System Information window, open the Run window and type msinfo32. On the System Information Window, you can located the Model Number of the Computer next to the "System Model".

Good Luck!

Please post back if you require any further assistance.

Thanks for using FixYa.

When i boot up its telling me no operating system.

Hi,

You need to access the bios to see if the hard drive has been recognized by the laptop.

Press either F1 or F2 to access the bios.

If the hard drive is not listed on the general page then this is the reason that it says no operating system found.

If it is there then chances are you have had a Win32 virus on the computer which has wiped the boot files.

This means that you willhave to use your recovery disk to recover the operating system.

Regards.
