While playing DVD on Perserio, I hit rewind & computer froze up
Hi,
We are facing issues in two different areas of your system
1) Your DVD :
Chck if the DVD you are using is without any scratches. Did you use any untidy DVDs? It might have resulted in dust formation in the reader point of the DVD driver. Please use the DVD cleaner in this case to clean the lense.
2) Your system hangs:
This is because you had shutdown your system without the proper shutdown so many times that some of the system files might have got corrupted. Please run a recovery to find out the corrupted files and reinstall them. If you had stored your documents in any other drive other than the OS drive, its pretty easy, just reinstall your OS again in the actual drive. Else, there might be feasibility of bad cluster formation for which you will have to quarentine those clusters using the format option. Had you stored your files in the OS drive, you this hard disk as a secondary disk and boot from another disk and coy all your files, to be safe enough.
Regards,
Hari

Broken fan on compaq
don't keep running it until you replace the fan. Look for one on ebay or around the web. It is shutting down because of heat. A $20 fan could cost you your whole laptop if you keep running it.

Compaq cq50 laptop has been stolen can it be blocked or traced
You are on shaky legal grounds, unless you have proof that it is your computer and have grounds to have a search for your personal information on that computer. That person could have also wiped the computer clean and reinstalled the Windows operating system.
I suggest you monitor your financial affairs closely to see if there are any unauthorized access to your accounts and credit cards, then you will have grounds for fraud investigation.
I think you should have a talk with a solicitor, this could be the least cost in the long run, especially if you have banking details on your computer.
When you get a new computer or your one back, you can protect the information on your computer and hard disk by placing a Power on Password on the laptop and a Password on the hard disk.
This will prevent unauthorized access to the laptop and hard disk. Even if the hard disk is removed and placed into another laptop, the data is locked and cannot be retrieved without the password.
These password should be recorded and placed in a safe place because if forgotten there are no backdoor passwords available.
Best of luck, I hope thinks turn out OK for you.

Shut down during use
If the CPU heatsink
is not clogged with dust and lint completely, you can use canned air
and just blow it inside the laptop through the openings on the bottom
and on the sides. It’s nice as a precaution measure, but it might not
work if your laptop already has a problem and the heatsink is
completely clogged.
- Open the laptop
case, so you can access the CPU fan and the heatsink. In some cases you
can access the heatsink through the latch on the bottom of the laptop.
Sometimes you have to open the laptop case all the way down.
- Carefully disconnect
the fan cables on the system board and remove the fan. If the fan makes
unusual sound when it spins (grinding sound), I would recommend to
replace the fan.
- Clean the fan and the heatsink with compressed air.
- I would also recommend removing old thermal grease from the CPU and applying new grease for better heat conductivity.

My notebook has been stolen can i block it or trace it
Some newer systems came equipped with a limited subscription to Lojack - an electronic tracing service. Depending on where you live, you can try to use the service if you signed up.
I can't imagine how the police could consider a theft of this value being a civil matter unless you didn't report it for a year, at least in the USA.

Screen Flickers
Hi I've recently fixed 2 laptops with a very similar error, neither of which were Hewlett Packard Compaq's. That aside its a fairly common error and that is a loose connection. Unless you've a lot of experience in dismantling and reassembling laptops, I strongly reccomend taking it to an experienced technician.
I hope this helps
