Hi Lisa,

If it responds ok with the old cartridge then the problem is with the cartridges' chip not the printer. Probably the manufactor has a problem with certain cartridge chip (contact them!). I would suggest to use the original at the problematic spot if it works without a problem.

Have you run the Wireless setup wizard from Printer ? If No, Press Setup button on printer front panel - Scroll till Wireless/Network settings - Choose Wireless setup Wizard and follow the directions.

After you have setup printer on network - Run the Printer s/w disk and Choose Add a Device and Choose Wired/Wireless network and continue with the Installation screen.

If you get an 'out of paper' message when you do have paper loaded, this video will help. Following the steps of this video, you'll see if there's paper jammed in the printer.

my c7280 prints anything magenta in yellow meanwhile i have a lot of magenta ink and i have not mixed ink colours too...anything magenta prints yellow.
any help in resolving this pls?

put ink cartridges in the printer

Download latest driver bundle (198mb) and the network reliabilty patch. Install the HP software choosing Connected via USB. Install the network reliability patch from the C7280 downloads page. Re-run the 198mb installer and choose Add a Device.

Presto! Wireless setup completes correctly.

I am not sure if you are printing from the web or not. Sometimes on your browser it will look like one page but printing it it will be two. If not then go to your printers in the control panel. Right click on your printer and left click on properties. Hopefully you have a Tab called "Advanced" at the bottom of the Tab there should be a button "Separator Page". When you click on it is there a file name in the white box of the window that pops up? If so remove it.

IssueAn 0xc18xxxxx or 0xc19xxxxx ink system error code displays on the front panel. The printer cannot copy, receive faxes, or print. 
Solution
Press the On button to turn the printer off. 
Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
Remove all the ink cartridges.
Wait two minutes.
Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.
Press the On button to turn the printer on. 
Install the ink cartridges when prompted.
If the error code does not display, the issue is resolved.
If the 0xc18xxxxx or 0xc19xxxxx ink system error code displays on the front panel, service the printer.

will not print bar not lining up,it does fax fine

chances are your phone line is not a dedicated outgoing data transmission line : result of the phone companies keeping tabs on their property and its usage. if you are using a regular phone line, you have to call for the phone co. to add the data transmit feature.

Sadly not. The HP Photosmart C7280 insists on having a full set of cartridges installed in order to print. It does this because the printheads are actually part of the printer itself and can sustain damage if they pull air into the printhead.The out of date message is also non-negotiable I am sad to say.

I'm not familiars with macs but I would not even mess with the HP software. Open whatever photo/graphics program you have, find "aquire image" or something similar and see if it "sees" the scanner. If it does, just scan directly from the software.

Send a test print to it from the printer properties. If you did not have any issues before you re-charged the printer cartridge, try another cartridge.

Try the above hp support center document. I know that not all errors that pop up on the printer display will be in the manual, but usually the first few characters of an error code point towards the failure.

This message appears when there is ink system failure.. either the cartridges that you are using got damaged or are refilled and also happens when the memory of the printer goes bad

The "Ink System Failure" error is causes by air in the ink feed tubes. We have a step by step guide to purging the air from the feed tubes posted on our web site.
