Sounds like a software issue - U might try contacting HP but do not hold your breath. If machine is out of warranty they want nothing to do with you and will refer you to some forum or whatever. Or they might tell you to get a new scanner compatible with a newer OS.

The "sender's" fax machine is attempting to RECEIVE a fax. This happens because they don't have the document fully inserted into the scanner before dialing. Bad line condition codes are 223, 224 and most of the codes starting with 23.

HP does not make a toolbox software for Windows 7 64 bit. The stance they seem to be taking is that the unit is 3 years old, tough luck, buy a new machine or settle for printing only.
