My acer aspire M5100 getting into shudown mode

Check the temperature of the CPU in Bios. It is probably higher than the Safe temperature and it gets into shut down mode to protect itself.
Open it, detach the cooler from the CPU and clean it, detach the CPU from the socket, clean the paste from the top, put a new one, clean the socket and put everything back. It should work perfectly.
If you need further assistance, just leave a comment. Cheers

Acer aspire m5100, AMD Athlon

Acer official site says:-
Up to 4 GB DDR2 533/667/800 MHz SDRAM
(dual-channel support on four DIMMs)

Try these bus speeds and for dual-channel support read this article :-

Dual-channel architecture requires a dual-channel-capable motherboard and two or more DDR, DDR2 SDRAM, or DDR3 SDRAM memory modules. The memory modules are installed into matching banks, which are usually color coded on the motherboard. These separate channels allow each memory module access to the memory controller, increasing throughput bandwidth. It is not required that identical modules be used, but this is often recommended for best dual-channel operation. It is possible to use a single-sided module of 512 MB and a double-sided module of 512 MB in dual-channel configuration, but how fast and stable it is depends on the memory controller.

If the motherboard has two pairs of differently colored DIMM sockets (the colors indicate which bank they belong to, bank 0 or bank 1), then one can place a matched pair of memory modules in bank 0, but a different-capacity pair of modules in bank 1, as long as they are of the same speed. Using this scheme, a pair of 1 GB memory modules in bank 0 and a pair of matched 512 MB modules in bank 1 would be acceptable for dual-channel operation.

Modules rated at different speeds can be run in dual-channel mode, although the motherboard will then run all memory modules at the speed of the slowest module. Some motherboards, however, have compatibility issues with certain brands or models of memory when attempting to use them in dual-channel mode. For this reason, it is generally advised to use identical pairs of memory modules, which is why most memory manufacturers now sell "kits" of matched-pair DIMMs. Several motherboard manufacturers only support configurations where a "matched pair" of modules are used. A matching pair needs to match in.

Good luck

Hi,

If you are receiving continuous beeps, it means that computer is not recognising the RAM (memory). In this you have to open the Tower and follow the below steps:

1. Turn OFF the computer
2. Open the flap of the Tower (Remove the screws from the back of Tower)
3. Now, On the Motherboard you will be able to see the RAM see the picture nanjia.jpeg

4. There should be two pins to unlock and remove it
5. Once removed, clean the terminal and replug it.
6. Turn ON the computer, it should take care of the issue

My acer aspire am5100 desktop needs a recovery to

With the first recovery disc in in the drive, and starting from a powered off machine, press the power button and then press quickly and repeatedly on the F12 key. The boot menu should appear. When it does, make sure that CD/DVD/Optical whatever drive is highlighted. If it's not, use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight it. When it's highlighted, hit the enter key.

The second you see a white message on a black screen that says...."Press any key to boot from CD" hit a key and begin to follow all the prompts.

You should be ok after that.

Regards,

Selk

Will not recognize cd when inserted

Try This:
1.click on start->all programs->run and type in run box devmgmt.msc
You wil find a device manager box now you need to click on the symbol called "scan for hardware changes". Now once the changes is complated then restart the computer and see if you can view the cd's. But before doing so check that whether the cd drive icon is showing in the My Computer or not.

2.If the above solution dosent work out than try cleaning the lens from the lens cleaner disc. You can purchase it from any local computer shop.

3.If the above two dosent work out then probably its a chance that you need to change the cd player.

Its been a while i'm

when you turn your screen on does it turn on. if yes then it is a VGA card problem...if you remove the VGA card and use the onboard one, the problem will be the same because their can't be two VGA on one computer and if their is, the onboard VGA is bad and thats why you have another VGA card replacing it, and if that one goes bad also, then you need to buy a new one.

Are PC power supplies generic?

According to Acer's website:

http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireM5100/AspireM5100sp2.shtml

The computer uses an industry standard 250W power supply so yes as long as you buy one that has all the connectors you need then you'll be fine.

MY AMD PHENOM QUAD CORE HEAT SINK FAN IS NOT

First, check for dust. Compressed air works to clean it out.
Second, if the fan is not spinning at all when the computer is turned on, make sure it's plugged in - a wire should connect somewhere
If neither of those work, you may just have to look into a replacement fan, at the least, or a new heatsink/fan assembly. Make sure you get one for AM3 (as Intel sockets - usually designated with a number like 775, 1136, etc. - are secured differently.) They can run from cheap to over $100.
