Edges of picture being cut off LG 37LG30 LCD TV

Yes, it is possible the settings from your cable box maybe set to the wrong ratio eg:letterbox. Depending on what type of box you have, look in the cable box menu for a settings option, then change the aspect ratio to a different format.

Difficulty hearing Samsung LCD tv even with volume up to 100%

Some models are just that way. I would invest in a small surround sound system for them.

Low volume on LG HDTV

I encountered the same thing using the HDMI interface on my new TWC cable box (Motorola DCX-3200). After a little bit of research, I finally fixed it by changing the digital audio mode in the cable box using this procedure:

1. Be sure the TV is on and connected to the cable box.
2. Using the cable box remote turn power OFF.
3. Immediately press the MENU key on the remote. The USER SETTINGS menu should appear on the TV screen.
4. Select the ADDITIONAL HDMI SETTINGS >>> menu item.
5. The ADDITIONAL HDMI SETTINGS menu will appear.
6. Scroll to the AUDIO OUTPUT item and select this.
7. Change the setting from AUTO to L-PCM.
8. Return to the main page
9. Using the remote, cycle power OFF.
10. When the cable box is turned on again, you should be good to go.

I realize these instructions are specific to the DCX-3200, but there may be a similar setup option available in your cable box as well.

The problem here is that the cable box is by default configured to use Dolby Digital audio, which requires an additional 10dB of headroom to deal with the boosted LFE channel. If the cable operator hasn't taken pains to set the system up correctly (and most haven't, apparently), the digital audio level sent on the HDMI interface will be approximately 11dB down from normal analog line levels on the HDTV channels. Changing to straight linear PCM sets the TV receiver audio level on the HDTV channels to match the levels on the non-HD channels.

The only problem with this fix is that if you intend to feed a Home Theater receiver that uses Dolby Digital processing with the cable box output you will lose the Dolby encoding feature and be forced into straight 2-channel stereo. For a simple installation like mine where I'm just feeding the TV, this fix works fine. If you have a more complex setup that takes advantage of Dolby Digital features (when it's available in program material), you may have to live with the problem.

For a technical reference on why this happens, see http://www.megahz.com/specimages/Dolby/LM100%20Cable%20App%20Note%2011-05.pdf

Hope this is useful.

LG 37LG30 HDMI no sound problem

This is more probably a software fault within the TV. They need instructions for HDMI inputs & a no sound is a related fault. I would get in touch with your dealer to arrange the TV to be updated to cure this problem. Hope this helps.

LG 37LG30 has stopped auto adjusting to screen format.

Try restoring to factory settings for everything(I believe there is an option there in one of the options menus). Double check to then see if it's set to set by program.

If that fails to work you may be having a bad main board issue if it is the TV. Make sure it isn't your cablebox being stupid, though.

Auto volume control

Hello, Sorry this isn't really a solution but when I went into Future Shop to inquire about purchasing a large Plasma TV with this "auto volume" feature I was told that this is not what it does. I thought what you did, that it controlled the annoyingly loud commercials. I was informed that it regulates volume between stations. So when you change channels, the volume stays consistant. I don't know why this is considered a feature when it's not really a problem. Please tell me if I was misinformed, but this would explain why the feature is not quietening the commercials.

Auto volume has little or no effect on loud commercials

This may not be a problem. I believe there is an audio effect used by video production houses to 'boost' the presence of an ads audio and this effect is not picked up by the electronic device's (in this case TV) volume stabilizing software. It is intentional by the makers of the ads.
A work-around could be to try different configurations on your TV's audio settings, such as just mono, or just 2channel stereo, or surround sound - on or off, increasing/decreasing bass and treble levels in different combinations.
The down-side to this is to get a comfortable, uniform level of volume across the board, you maybe sacrificing some sound quality - but, as with our eyes, our ears adjust well quickly (hence don't listen to too loud sounds) and what you may not like now, will sound ok tomorrow.
I can't tell if there is a fault or not, but this may help if you "trial" some options.

Am i getting hdtv with just cable feed?

Depending on your cable provider, some of the HD channels may be present. If so, these are ususally located in the upper channel numbers. It sounds like you are receiving some of the HD lineup. A cable box will probably allow you to view more HD channels including the premium HD channels if you subscribe to them. You should not be noticing a delay with the HD channels only. If this is what you are experiencing without a cable box, then it would be an issue with the HD tuner built into your TV set. LG customer service can let you know if there are any software updates available for yourmodel that can resolve this. Additionally, if you are getting your sound from an Home Theater system then you will notice an echo if using the TV's built in speakers at the same time. This is sometimes mistaken as an audio delay. If you are using a home theater system, be sure to disable the speakers that are built into your system.

Audio & video sync problems

I would advise you to call LG's customer service at 800-243-0000 to set up service. There is a service bulletin about this issue specifically for your model. Your set requires a simple software update to fix the audio delay with HDMI issue. You can ask LG's customer service to refer to bulletin #0IVL20080379. Hope this helps.

I have a LG dvd player 5083 inserted the disc the correct way into the draw but the machine does not play the disc a very slight humming noise is heard then it spits the drawer back out

Clean the Lens: Use a DVD cleaning disc to clean the lens. If the problem persists, consider professional cleaning. Test Other Discs: Try playing different DVDs to see if the issue occurs consistently. If it's specific to one disc, that disc might be the problem. Check for Updates: Make sure your DVD player's firmware is updated. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for firmware updates. Try a Different TV: Connect your DVD player to a different TV to see if the noise disappears. If it does, the issue might be with your TV. The hum is simply the player trying to read the disc. It can't so, it spits it out. Remember that prolonged use of a malfunctioning DVD player could potentially cause damage. If the problem persists, consider seeking professional repair or replacement
