I have a Kenwood KDC-MP238
More than likely, the trucks are equipped with the Infinity sound system upgrade from the factory. This means there is an amplifier that will need to be powered up to create sound. Keep in mind, you will be amplifying an amplified signal and this can create issues. It would be a much better decision to bypass the amplifier. (Run new wire to the speakers.)

No sound
check the fuse on the back of the radio. if it checks good then check for voltage to the yellow wire. the voltage should be constantly on. it should show 12 volts to 13.5 volts depending on the type of vehicle.

I have the MP-283 Model and the directions are poor not doubt,
I too was also having trouble with the DEMO mode and clock adjustment.
I put the stereo in standby mode, then press and hold the control knob for 2 seconds, then release and press the bass boost/ menu button, this shold open up all the options of the setero by using the control knob up/down to scroll through the various adjustments.
