Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver Questions & Answers
What needs to be done to repair it?
The error code that you listed indicates that the unit is shutting down due to the temp sensor triggering a fault. Most likely, there is bad connections on the temp sensor itself that will need to be resoldered.
Yamaha rx-v663 how to set and lock sound program
once you set the audio program for an input, it should stay set even if you power the unit down. As far as locking that program so that it cannot be changed - no there isn't a way to do that.
Volume knob doesnt work
Ironic that this popped up today. I just worked on my dads Yamaha RX-V663 today. Have you tried to see if it works on the other speaker channels. Not sure how you have yours set up or how many speakers are attached, but my dads wouldn't work on channel A, I guess it burned up. I basically just moved the speakers over to the surround sound and channel B and everything worked as usual. Oh, and turned off channel A
Yamaha rx-v663 is there a firmware update to get hdmi 1.4a support ?
Unfortunatly there is not any firmware to upgrade your unit to a higher HDMI format. There is a firmware though that corrects the following symptoms.1. In case of playback of some DTS-HD Master Audio stream, pop noise may be generated. 2. Test tone may not be output under specific YPAO condition. 3. When test tone is output from presence channel, surround R channel is simultaneously output when speaker settings are PRESENCE SP "EXIST" and SWFR "NONE". 4. Multi channel input setting will be reset after power off the unit, in case of setting "INPUT CH" to "8CH" and "FRONT" to "VCR" or "V-AUX".
My Yamaha rx-v663 turns on
Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it '*****'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.
Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.
Yamaha RX-V663 zone 2 stopped
Hello
The power supply sectionand the relay control section should be checked. There is control transistors which activates the relay control. If this transistor has damaged, of it does not get any voltage, the relay will not click. In most cases, if the output transistors got shorted, the set will come by protection state. Here you reports that only relay is not working. Just open the set and check the voltages at the "collector" pin of the relay drive transistor. You have ot disassemble the whole circuit board as these transistors are not accessable without get the boads out. Actuallly this is a very skilled work and care should be taken in all respect. If you are not aware in elctronics, and haven't proper tools and a digital multimeter, soldering iron, you can do this work. Otherwise get it repaired by any experienced service technician. OK.
My receiver is in protection
It may be sensing shorted circuits in the power amp section, shoprted speaker wires, for now you can try unhooking ALL the speaker cables first to see if it will come on OK. If not, you have serious problem that will need in-depth troubleshooting.
Receiver turns off after DVD is turned on.
It's a issue with alot of these Receivers I personally had this issue on my Receiver.
the issue is a ground Fault the protection mode for over current in some of Yamaha's and HK receivers are the Two main Relay's if the Ground inside the amp is lose or is causing a Ground Loop this will happen. as you turn on the DVD there is a slight leak of Positive current tru a bad Capacitor and Resistor on the DVD player causing the Ground to send a instant burst of -Vcc to the Amp's ground setting the Protection mode on. but because it's not caused by the Receiver it self sometimes it looks like the Amp just shut it self down. In better words Try to Ground the DVD before you hook up again. use the Outlet Ground also if you use a 1K resistor on the ground wire it will help to keep any noise from coming in. Let me know. Marcelo Good Luck.
Can the Yamaha RX-V663 (7.1) be upgraded to handle
Long story short... No. Use your 663 for digital audio, Run video direct to TV for BLURAY & or Cable for 3d content. You can still switch all other video sources thru the receiver. Not cost effective. cost more to do it than you paid for it. Hope this helps
