We tried to turn on

Hi,
Fuse is inside the set near the large transformer's location, trace the power cord's line inside. Let me know if the fuse is intact to determine the next steps. If the fuse is open, replace it with same current(ampere) ratings and try to power it on again. Let me know what will be the result to assist you further.

Can the Yamaha RX-V663 (7.1) be upgraded to handle

Long story short... No. Use your 663 for digital audio, Run video direct to TV for BLURAY & or Cable for 3d content. You can still switch all other video sources thru the receiver. Not cost effective. cost more to do it than you paid for it. Hope this helps

What is the best way

elco1968,

Your best option would be to use hdmi cables. hdmi cables does digital video and digital sound.
If your still not getting enough volume. You need to check your receiver for the separate volumes for the fronts, rears, and mids if your running 7.1. If you are using more then one remote make sure you check all the volumes on all remotes as well. Thanks for visiting Fixya.com. Have a great day !

Denon receiver, monster 6 pair

Hi, depending on the length of run between the receiver, and the remote speakers, that along with any volume controls, well this resistance, indeed may attenuate the signal to a great degree, and make the signal very low, now an audio amplifier such as this isn't really designed to power long wire runs, much over say 10 meters. and then the wires must be very thick indeed. Also the power output on those rear channels is also somewhat lower in amplitude in any event.
There may not be enough power to drive all these speakers?
You need to hook it up, get one section working all OK, then add ONE speaker, and test that, and so on, checking at each one added, you may discover a problem?
Now, it may pay to either increase the wire size, or install another amplifier at the remote end, and use the existing output as only a sort of Pre-amp? Perhaps even amplified speakers could be used, in place of? as is similar to the ones used on a PC, one can get very high quality ones like this these days.

Also you need to check the Phasing, and make sure that this is all good, if the speakers are wired out of phase this will reduce volume too.
Also try temporarily bypassing the "Volume Control" wire in direct, and see if that makes any difference?

I am have my DVD

Sounds like your receiver only supports HDMI "pass-through"

HDMI passthrough will only forward the video signals from the source HDMI port, it will not actively convert the Component Signal to HDMI.

There is persistent low volume

You could have done a very slow damage to the Yamaha if your UPS was not a pure sine wave type ( on line UPS ). Most of the UPS we get are called Off line type and are far cheaper than the On line pure sine wave type. The out put of the Off line type UPS is not a sine wave ( the natural waveform of AC voltage ) and strains the Power supply circuit of any device connected to it.
Now if the humming sound is the same irrespective of the volume position, it is a power supply problem. You might be having a leaky rectifier diode or capacitor. First change the diodes and see if its ok then change the main filter capacitors too.

When i first power it

Hi whitecloud91,
This was caused by dried filter capacitor in the pre-amplifier stage(where the volume control is connected) and/or in the main sound output circuitry(where the large heat sink located). This capacitor is not totally faulty, need a little warm-up to make itself stable but the symptom will get worst. To isolate the faulty parts, you must have a capacitor checker to determine its condition and pinpoint where the faulty one. A leaky capacitor will do the same symptom, it has a physical indication of defect like bulging/dome at the top.
If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to look for a qualified technician to isolate the problem.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

My Yamaha RXV663 does not

Are you plugging this in to the correct plug on your receive and from your cable box? It should be HDMI OUT on your cable box, and one of the HDMI Inputs on your receiver. Then there should be a main HDMI cable going in to your television from the main HDMI OUT on your receiver to the television HDMI In.
Also, make sure the receiver is plugged in. Not on, but plugged in, because that is your ground. If all of these conditions are satisfied, there may be an issue with your cable box or the receiver.

What does warning 1 mean on microphone test?

On the microphone it means it's either picking up interference which can happen with cheaper microphones, or it can also mean that it's not picking up any noise.
When not using a microphone and this happens, then that would be protection mode, most systems would say protection and not warning. Warning just means there's interference or not being detected. Have you tried a different microphone?

Hello,
It is unclear to me as to what you mean when you say they do not activate. Does that mean that they just don't play, or does it mean that your receiver doesn't show them on the display? If your not hearing the sound from the speakers, are you sure your dvd movie is capable of outputting 7.1 or is it only 5.1?
If the receiver doesn't show the speakers on the display, try running through the speaker setup again to make sure you selected both sides and rears for the setup.
Good Luck

My brother gave me this Yamaha RX-V663 receiver

hi,
its not with any setting problem. its because ur receiver have some hardware problem. if there is any supply voltage missing, this problem can occur. especially the +15vand -15v. or if there is any loose contact or dry soldering in power supply or in the DAC ( Digital to analog converter) card. first of all check for any dry soldering in the main board. also check the soldering of DAC board socket and input selector board socket.
ok

MY YAMAHA RECIEVER KEEPS SHUTTING OFF

The unit is going into protection mode. The message is a generic one and usually means that the output section is drawing too much current and has been shut down. Defective speakers can cause this, but in this case, I suspect that there is a problem in the front end that is allowing DC current to pass to the output circuits. This will cause a problem that will shutdown the system. Yamaha designs are not the most straightforward nad I would not suggest you attempt this repair without prior repair experience. Take this to a service center and request a detailed repair estimate and report the results here. Armed with that info, we canguide you further.
