You say you definitely were able to get analog signals to output over the HDMI without issue before? You have always been using the HDMI out, such as with the ipod dock?

Let me know and we can get this figured out, just reply here.

Thanks,
Tim

My receiver keeps clicking over

Not an expert on this amp But going into standby often means the system's Protection circuit is cutting in to stop an overload condition. As a quick first thing, try disconnecting all speakers and running the unit without speakers for the 10 minute period and see if that helps.

When i play my PS3 game the receiver shorts out

Hello

Cutting out on the sound is usually a blown IC on the circuit board of the unit itself. This can also result in the player turning off randomly.

Take you receiver to your nearest electronic repair shop, let them replace the blown IC.

This should do the trick.

Kind regards
Andrea

Dead

On the back panel of your receiver, there should be a fuse holder. Unscrew and check if the fuse needs replacing.

No sound

Make sure the speaker are plugged into the "audio out" ports. Black negative, red positive.
If a dvd players or other system is hooked up, the speaker should hook into that unit, then the unit is hooked to the auxiliary port(s), or the proper ports for each unit: ex: cd/dvd should be plugged into vd/dvd; same for vcr, game system - auxiliary is for pretty much any unit not listed on the backing of the receive - however, some units will still work while plugged into the ports other than auxiliary.
Make sure the receive is selected to the desired device.
If you simply have the speakers plugged into the speaker ports, make sure the speaker themselves are still good - try hooking them up to another source such as a a dvd player equipped with surround sound or speaker adapters that will suffice your speaker wiring.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Onkyo TX-SR508 cooling fan

I don't know the psecific answer but wouldn't it be easier and safer to just locate the fan turn-on signal and cheat it? The fan is already on a 12v feed. I don't think you want to arbitrarly place an inherently noisy (electrically) device like a fan on a 12v buss in an audio device.

When I first turn on the receiver in the morning

if you are using hdmi cable, you should switch to using component cables for the video - (red/blue/green) - you will need to use the white/red for your sound (or the optical cable) - uverse is aware of the issue and if you call they probably wont be able to send someone out but they can give you a credit for buying the cables

Difficulty breaking down signal from dish to onkyo receiver to tv

Lots of players in this scenario> Only the receiver is named and you're "fairly positive that the problem is not the HDMI cable" - WHY? It's a single point of failure, too.

You don't actually say what happens if you bypass the receiver with the video sources, which is NOT a bad idea overall anyway. Multiple hops for any signal usually results in degradation at some point.
