Unfortunately Panasonic aren't all that good at software, you might need to update windows.

You need to purchase it again from Panasonic, or do using a torrent (not legal). It's sad that can't just make it available on their website

Bring up the menu, select "LOCK", then select the file to lock/unlock and confirm.Full details are on page 19 of the manual.

I hate to tell you but you are stuffed, this happened to me too and spoke to Panasonic, basically there is no way. I don't use mine anymore.

The only place you can get it free is from peer to peer file sharing which can lead to viruses and copyright infringement. Otherwise you can buy a download straight from Microsoft's website.

You can move your files from the abc& s folders,If you can't remember your password for the (S) Foler, -Play the file _while playing the file, Hold in on Folder Button_You will then see the display with the Folder S lit up, and use the Roller to select the Folder you want the file to be sent to, -Then press down on the Stop Button. The recording will stop and be moved to that folder.Re: Authentication Key: For the 450 Model; (May work for others/Not sure)To reset the authrentication key of the unit, please try the following:-take out the batteries of the unit-put the unit onto HOLD -put the batteries back into the unit; the unit should display "hold"-press and hold ERASE, STOP, and REWIND or tilt the joystick left on the unit within 3 seconds-if this is done correctly the LCD should light up and the REC light will blink; if not repeat the previous steps-tilt and hold the joystick down for 10seconds; the LCD screen will display "hey del" to "finish"Now I had to fiddle around a bit, like change the folder from ABC, etc. in order to get the instructions to work.Now when you get it Finish(ed) just take out the batteries. The files were still intact in the recorder for me. I then plugged it in with the Voice Editing Program open, and then when asked to enter the Authentication Key, it worked.I set the new key, But I thought it was supposed to ask you for the key everytime you plugged it it, but just the once (Win 7). It would seem the encryption key is specific to the Secure Folder that is on your recorder.
All the other folders should be public access.

So when it requests an encryption key, just type in anything.
It will sternly tell you that this is the incorrect input and then promptly allow you to access most of your folders anyway.

This should be sufficient unless you have vitally important voice recordings that need secure encryption (recording stored in the secure folder), In that case, it's time to Pay The Man.

There are 2 possible options, one is installing the driver or if you're on vista installing the update to connect the device.

Driver:
What you need to do is unistall the driver for the device and reinstall it using the CD.

1. With the device connected go to the control panel
2. Search "driver" in the search box at the top right hand side of the screen
3. Choose the "device manager" option. If a pop up appears just choose continue.
4. At the bottom of the list open the menu for the "Universal Serial Bus Controllors" if it is not already open.
5. Double click on the "Panasonic IC Recorder" choice to open a new menu
6. Click on the "driver" tab
7. At the bottom of the list is the "uninstall driver (Advanced)" button, click it
8. After the driver is uninstalled disconnect the device from the PC
9. Reconnect the device, and it will bring up a new pop up. Choose the "Install Driver" option, it should be the first
10. It will then ask you to insert the CD that came with the device, just insert disc 1 in to the CD tray

Vista takes over from there and installs the driver for you and now your device will show the PC on the screen.
