There are different software available free online that you can download and run to your PC to recover the deleted files once you connect the Olympus to your PC.

You can choose one software and download it from the link below:

1. Download and install Pandora Recovery - Connect the digital voice recorder to your computer, then open the installed program. Select the connected Olympus voice recorder as the device you want to scan, then click "Start." Wait for the program to finish scanning, and a list appears on the screen of all the files you are able to recover. Select the files and click "Restore."

2. Download and install GetDataBack Data Recover - Connect the Olympus voice recorder to the computer, then power on the program. Click on the removable device (this is the voice recorder), then choose "Begin Scan." Check off the files you want to restore once the scan has finished and click "Recover."

3. Download and install the Easeus Data Recover program - Connect the Olympus digital voice recorder to the computer via USB data cable, then launch the installed software. Select that you want to perform a data scan, then choose the Olympus digital voice recorder as the equipment you want to scan. Select "Start" and wait for the scan to finish. Check off the files you want to recover, then click "Recover" to save the files back onto the digital voice recorder.

To erase a selected file, first press the [ERASE] button. Next, press the [+] (plus) or [-] (minus) button to select "ERASE," and then press the [ERASE] or [OK] button.
To erase all files in a folder, first select the folder and press the [ERASE] button for three seconds or longer. Next, press the [+] (plus) or [-] (minus) button to select "ALL ERASE." Finally, press the [ERASE] or [OK] button.
NOTE:
The recorder should be formatted using only by using the internal FORMAT function found in the recorder's Menu. Formatting using the computer may corrupt system files needed to run the recorder, so computer formatting is not recommended. Individual files can be deleted using the computer with no negative effects.

try to format the recorder if this doesnt work,you may have to send it in to Olympus for service.Usually theyll restore after the message goes away,if it doesnt the damage is fatal.

As far as free software goes this software is regarded as one of the best around. Obviously there are always potential pitfalls with downloading any software so whilst I am putting in a reminder that you use this at your own risk I can say I personally have used it with excellent results.

It is also guaranteed free of virus or spyware by that site and I have used it without any problems. However I would recommend that when you download it scan the exe file first with your antivirus and anti-spyware programs before launching it. Then back up all your current files and create a restore point on your computer before using the program.

This advice is not directed because of that particular recovery program but is general advice so as to avoid problems occurring as a result of using any software like that.

It sounds like the water damage may have caused the down volume button to malfunction. While it may be possible to fix the button, it would require opening up the device and performing some troubleshooting, which can be difficult if you don't have experience with electronics. I would recommend taking the recorder to a professional repair shop or contacting Olympus customer support to see if they can assist you with repairs. If the device is still under warranty, they may even be able to provide a replacement.

I provide a link to the manufacturer at the bottom; you have to drill down to a chat opportunity from there. I think you are going to have to run the pertinent software in compatibility mode, probably for XP or Windows 7. You could try running the XP driver on an XP machine if you have one collecting dust. That is, if the driver exists in the links at the old posts below. This recorder has been around from at least 2009. Alternatively, you can try the Olympus chat to inquire if a current driver might work on it. I'm under the impression that installation of any driver for the device is a little tricky at the best of times. Purchase a new one. They are inexpensive and liquid damage is sometimes not repairable.

It could be full. try clearing some space.

I suggest you attempt to reset the device which should bring back default settings. If you wish to do a reset, go to Device Menu, go to Reset Settings, click + to select start then click OK.
