Magellan RoadMate 1412 Car GPS Receiver - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Hey, I had a similar issue of maps of USA with a GPS of a Garmin and Magellan with jump framework, at that point I searched for and they suggested me a specialized help in top took care of, they previously unraveled it and they stacked me maps of all USA. try using a friends computer who has an older system. I used my Mom's, it was Windows 7. Finally it installed the updates, no problem. It took me weeks to figure out this work around, but I got it to work. Very bad customer service on Magellan's part. But I suppose Microsoft is also to blame. I doubt Windows 10 will ever work, when they upgrade, they don't integrate the drivers, making a lot of devices obsolete. Let me know how it goes...

According to Magellan at their website, a new map update will be available next month (sometime). There is a firmware update there now.  The firmware update works fine if you follow their instructions.....full battery charge etc.

Magellan withdrew from European PND market, but have partnered with Mio (http://eu.mio.com) to offer a trade in towards a new Mio device.
Give them a call and see what they have available ;)

check their web site please, search for your model #

try the calibration screen in the options menu and follow the directions...make sure you hold the screen over the X until it moves to the next position.

if that fails, you might need a digitizer...let me know and ill help you

i fix these and many other magellan gps daily so when considering my advice , please understand i do not google my solutions.

Have you check the voltage output on your power/charger cord? It's easy to test if you know how to use a multi-tester or take it to a small electronics shop like a Radio Shack.If there is no voltage output from the charger, then simply replace the cord. I have found that those charging cords can break real easily but it's hard to physically see any damage.Otherwise, if you've already tried a new charger, you may need to send your GPS in for service.

It might mean that the signal is disrupted. Might be a software glitch. Try going outside, get a clear view of the sky. Then reboot/reset the unit. Hold the switch to the reset position or off position for 10 seconds, it will shut off. then switch it back on. It should reacquire a signal within 2-5 minutes, then it will fix on your position. If that doesn't work, try updating your software. Call Magellan Tech Support for instructions.

Lets see if we can get your unit first working by a common problem and possibly with a common fix. Try this and let me know if worked. It needs to be rebooted. Turn off, by holding off button down. Then once it is completely off, then turn it on, BUT when you go to turn it on, keep the on button depressed, all the way until it turns on and then some for about 15 seconds, now you just rebooted system. Let me know if that cleared this up. If not, it is possible there is a shorted circuit inside, then in that case, would have to be sent into Magellan to replace or repair. MIKE

I am very sorry that you are experiencing this problem. I will do anything i can do to help. I do not fully understand what you are trying to say but it doesnt work indoors. It will only work outside and preferably in your car.

Use that to create a new map on a 2GB SD card.

If its not charging the battery with the 12 volt cigarette cord, the meter will say full even though the battery is dead. This is a common problem with GPS Units with the USB as a charging port. If the GPS Unit is still under warranty, i would send it back to magellan or whereever you bought it, the sooner the better. I believe that you GPS is defective or in need of repair. Hope this helps.

This is normal, this come straight of the satellite. To speed up process or bypass, reboot system. To Manually reboot this model, turn unit off like normal. Then when turning on, keep button down as it fires up, DO NOT release on button, keep it down until all fires up and even about 10 seconds passed, then let go. This reboots it and cleans up a lot of ****. Thanks Mike. Try re booting, turn off like normal, then when you go to turn it on, hold power button down all the way through the start up, and 15 seconds more than release the on button, now it's rebooted, see if that helps, let me know.
