Charging the Magellan 1412 with a pc
Hello,
I was looking for a USB cable to use to update the firmware and did not see any particular specifications for the usb cable. I decided to
use the USB cable that I purchased for my motorola v3 along with the phone tools software. When I plugged it in the 1412 sat on a screen waiting for the PC application for updating maps or software which I had not installed yet. I found that the 1412 was actually taking a charge from the motorola phone tools kit. ALSO with a few repeated attempts on my XP PC I was able to access the files on the 1412 from 2 drives that it set up on my PC just like a USB stick. One drive was a virtual CD drive and the other was just like a
usb flash drive. So I backed up the software to my PC. I have not done any hacking yet but I bet there are some ways to do this.

Battery question
I found there are select 120v AC adapters that will work on Magellan GPS. When a working 120v or 12v adapter to mini USB adapter is plugged into the unit, the battery bars will be 'scrolling' and therefore charging.
When your adapter, or even USB cable from your computer, is plugged into the GPS unit, and the battery goes to FULL, it is NOT CHARGING. The battery bars must be SCROLLING for the unit to charge. In this case, get a different adapter until it works.

Problem charging MAGELLAN GPS.

This was tested on a Magellan 1412, and may apply to other Magellan GPS.
