To avoid an eventual loss of power while you are driving and the subsequent unsafe fumbling with the machine, you can plug the TT in the cigarette lighter during your ride. This will supply power to the GPS and recharge the battery.
Alternatively, before going on a trip plug the TT in a USB port of a computer and it will recharge the battery. With a fully charged battery and the car power adapter/battery charger you will not run out of power.

Connect it to the computer and use the software Tomtom Home to update the GPS. If you had already used Home, it usually stores on your computer all the updates. If there is something on your computer, use Home to restore it to the GPS.
If the techs that told you to restore the GPS are people from TomTom support you should recontact them and explain what happened after you followed their instructions. The case number they gave you should help track your previous request for support.

If for some reason that does not lead you anywhere, you may have to purchase the relevant map from Tomtom.

You can charge while driving, but I have been told that every so often you should let the battery run flat. If you dont have to put your home address as your home location, enter an address 2 streets away, it will be close enough for you to know your way home or just enter it as one of your favourites under you first name or something.

If you wisely made a backup of your device using 'Tom Tom Home', use the 'RESTORE' option!

Otherwise try 'Tom Tom Home' while connected to the Internet and select 'Update' my One: it should re-load and update all missing components (including the MAP) that your machine is allowed to have.

I would start at http://www.opentom.org.
It looks like it will be possible to put some different software onto it, then use http://www.openstreetmap.org maps on it, but I have never tried!

Hi! Due to the slower processor and less RAM, the 130s does feel a bit sluggish running through the menu system compared to its upper-end siblings.I hope you may have chance for clear some what parts/labour warranty such as 1 year

Your battery is dead, buy a new batter for by doing some internet searches.

you need to conect it to your computer so the software can fix it.

first do this unplug the unit and try to find the reset button and press it for 2 minutes and if this dosent work unplug the unit for several hours these have a built in relearn function also you may want to open the device up and see if there is a small fuse that may be blown ok if so radio shack has these

It sounds like your mini usb connector is damaged or one of the components near to it. If you're handy you can buy a replacement and solder it in. You will need a very fine tip soldering iron and a magnifying glass. The repair can be quite challenging as the components are surface mounted. If it's a damaged component near the USB connector that is damaged then this wont solve the problem.
I can fix it for you for a small fee if you dont want to attempt repair.

Do this whilst it is disconnect from a PC

Whilst it shows a map display touch the screen once.


Select the icon that looks like a spanner / wrench

Use the rght arrow on the display until you see a bunch of flags. (if you shoot past it just keep going until it comes ound again)

Touch that and select the correct the correct flag / language.

I am not sure about the mac side but do not do it via a hub do it direct to a USB 2,0 compliant port.

And only use the vable that came with it not just one that fits.
not all cables are equal
Should be i know but its not always the case

If the mac has any power saving options esp for individual bits of hardware (lots of hardware have their own power saving functions) then turn them off windows allows pc users this option.

first off i would consult the troubleshooting section in your users manual if you dont have it contact the manufacture of the device for a manual.
otherwise try this remove the power cord and press and hold in the reset button for 2 min this may help reset the unit.
If not remove the power cord and leave the unit sit for several hours it has a re learning function built in also if you can go to www.tomtom.com to view a downloadable users
