To set up a map on the micro SD card you can follow the instructions on http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps Don't download directly to the micro SD card as it won't be recognised by your satnav. Download to the computer and install from the computer to the card as described at the above link.

You will need to contact garmin to do this. Their website is www.garmin.com when you get to there web page look at the top right hand corner where it says My garmin. From there set up a new account once you do this then contact their technical support either by phone or by email. From there they can instruct you what you need to do to reset the pin number.

Just follow this procedure...

1. Press Tools, the symbol in the bottom right corner of a spanner.
2. Press Settings, the symbol in the top left corner of a spanner.
3. Press Language, the symbol of lips

You'll can see 3 bars one for text language, one for voice language and one for keyboard layout.
Press each one in turn and select english as the language.

Resetting Your nuvi

Depending on your nüvi model, you can reset your nüvi by pushing the reSet button on the bottom of the unit.

CaUtion: Do not reset your nüvi with a ballpoint pen or other sharp object, which can damage the unit or the battery.

If your nuvi does not have a reSet button, slide the Power key to the on/off position and hold it for 8 seconds.

You need to send it in for repairs. You can contact garmin here www.garmin.com When you get on their web page go to the top of the page to the right where it says My garmin if you don't have a user account set one up, if you do have an account then put in your user name and password. From there go to support and contact them either by email or a phone call to find out how to get your unit repaired.

I own a Garmin also so Im pretty familiar with them but I have never traveled out of the United States with one. Im sure you know the principal of a GPS is to locate the satellites that circle the earth. You need a minimum of 3 for the GPS to function correctly. But usually its locked on to more of them. I think you issue maybe more with the maps in your unit then satellites. Here is my suggestion because I dont know what maps your unit covers for you. You need a tech to tell you how much coverage your current maps in your unit will cover and how far in Canada they will go but I think your going to need a new set of maps. Go here www.garmin.com either click the link or copy and paste it in to your web browser. When you get on Garmins site then look at the top of the page to the right it will say My Garmin click on that and set up a account with a user name and password. At that point you can check the maps and the coverage of them or you can contact Garmins Technical support by phone or by email to tell you the coverage you have in your unit now.

Not really as it's not waterproof. You should use the garmin zumo which is designed for motorcyeles.

In order to update your Garmin Nuvi 205W's system version, you'll need to download software which checks your unit's current version and updates it to the latest version. The current version available is 2.9.1.0 as of December, 2009. Garmin makes it easy by installing a browser plugin instead of having to install a software package. The WebUpdater plugin can be downloaded here:

In order to install the plugin you must first agree to the license agreement. You will then need to close all of your open browsers that are open on your computer to finish the install. Once you have, the plugin will start to install. To finish the system update, Garmin lists several steps on a page;

• Disconnect your 205W from your laptop or desktop and let it restart
• Once you see the main screen, you can connect it back to your computer and wait 30 seconds.
• On the next screen, click the 'Find Devices' button and then click the 'Next' button.

Once your computer finds your 205W and you initiate the update, the plugin will install the new system to your unit.

Yes, the dashboard disk gets stuck to the dashboard. Then the unit gets stuck to the disk.
This is because the suction system used to mount the unit will usually not stick directly to a car's dashboard because of the material or shape, but will always stick to the disk.

t may concern with Garmin Lock function : Garmin Lock is an anti-theft feature. You can set a 4-digit PIN and a security location (such as your home or office). Every time the nüvi 205W is powered on, you must enter the PIN, or drive to your security location.
So try to disable this
if you have proof of purchase return it to garmin otherwise they will keep it goodluck

There three ways to change a password
1 Know the orig password, enter it, then change it to what you want. That would entail getting a hold of the owner to get it (in your case) and the easiest route to take.
2 Get within 100 feet or so from where the password was inputted. It would ten allow you to change it.
3 Send to Garmin to have it cleared out. If you do this, you might as well have them change the battery (as it may be old and cause problems soon)

hold your thamb finger at right/bottom cornner of LCD screen, then plug in car charger. unit will reset to factory mode. try it.

go to settings ,add new destination ,starting point and end location click save enter

• Press SETTINGS (The spanner symbol) or LOCALE (The blue symbol) on some satnavs that don't have a SETTINGS menu
• Press LANGUAGE (the lips symbol)
• This will bring you to a screen with 3 items on it; VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
• Press VOICE and select a voice from an English speaking country.
• Press TEXT and select English or American English if you're in the USA

This should solve your problem. I realise you may not be able to know which is which item in the language screen but if you press each one and select English it will solve the problem

In the menu go to Tools>Settings>System>About this screen will display all information you need.
