Carrier 38CKC042300. oUTSIDE UNIT FAN WAS TURNING
The outside fan may run if the unit is in defrost mode this is normal for most heat pumps it is there way of trying to keep the outside unit from staying iced over so the next time the unit runs it will have air flow through the coil and the ice will not be there to prevent air flow.
H2 error code
Hi,
The power went off and then back on again... on the startup it shows you that your a set up for a 2 speed heat pump by showing you the H2 code.
Now you will have to just reprogram the t-stat again as you would if it was new...
Click here for the manual and programing instructions.
The good news is that there probably is nothing seriously wrong...

The number you are referring to as your 'model number' is a number I don't recognize; maybe it's the SN or something - I don't know.
But that other number - "38CKC042" -------'is' --- your model number and the size of your AC is 42,000 Btu or 3.5 tons.
Every thing is working, but
Seems you have a leak & lost your Freon Coolant! Have someone add some Freon with leak detector & look for a oiley color, usually purple die or red die! If their is any Freion in your system you should show some pressure readings!

My carrier split unit carrier
could be the run cap but also could be motor windings are getting weak. I would replace both the cap and the fan motor for preventive reasons.
Does this heat pump use
James, a 38 ck unit would normally have a piston. It would be located behind the brass nut that connects the small tubing to the indoor coil. If a txv was installed you should actually be able to see that the piston was removed. l
My Carrier AC is leaking
If this unit is new more than likely the condesate drain line does not have a deep U shaped "trap"in it. This allows the negative air pressure inside the unit to draw air up thru the drain line holding the water inside the cabinet until the fan shuts off, then the water can drop out of the unit everywhere.
If the system has been in foe some time and has the proper "trap" the drain line could be plugged any where there is a turn in the pipe. It is a messy clean out but it can be done by cutting the straight PVC pipe, right after the screw in fitting and the 90. This will allow you to unscrew the fitting at the unit and clean it out. Sometime there is a gel like clog that grows at this point. Then you can take a wire or compressed air to clean out the rest of the line to the outlet. Next pour hot water thru the PVC and see how it comes out the end. Worst case you will need to pour a solution of hot water and white vinegar to remove any build up.
Where's the reset button on a carrier furnace
There usually isnt a reset however there always is a auxillary limit and those are most always automatic reset but it is located on the blower housing. Whats going on is the blower trying to come on? If it seems like its not trying to come on find out where the wire connects to the circuit board take it off and check voltage you should have 120V. Let me know what you find ok.
