Carrier 38CKC036 Air Conditioner Questions & Answers
Fan louder than normal
Sounds like whoever did the txv, changed the fan speed. Yes, the fan speed is adjustable. Some HVAC units can have up to 4 speeds on the motor. Low, Med Low, Med Hi, and Hi. this is so the same unit can be used for several different cooling coils and tonage. The faster the speed in the cooling mode, the less cool the air will be.
COmpressor not working
Check the capacitor, if it is bulged out it is obviously bad, but I have replaced many that were hard to see whether the top was bulged out or not. If you take the access panel off (should be in the same area as the contactor you were manually pushing in) you should be able to see it. I have only had luck buying them at my HVAC supply houses (usually under $10) You need to make sure to get one that has the same MF as the existing one, if you take it with you someone should be able to match it. Be sure to discharge the capacitor of any stored electricity before disconnecting it (I would recommend calling in a professional HVAC tech if you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable at all with this procedure)
IF I REPLACE THE CAPACITOR,WILL THIS STOP THE RATTLING NOISE?
Noise is produced by the fan and the compressor. If it's always made this noise then it's OK. Capacitor simply gives the fan and compressor a high voltage impulse to start them. Has it always made this noise? Something inside could have shaken lose, the fan is unbalanced, etc.
WE have a Lennox furnace that is 3 years old. We
your furnace uses 115 power & there is a transformer in this unit that powers the low voltage controls. i would say that when they replaced the board they missed some issues with the low voltage control wires. which is likely to be what cause the board to go bad. theses low voltage wires are the only thing that can tell the outside unit to come on. the lights dimming tells me that you have a bad capacitor or need a hard start kit. the lights normally only dim if the compressor doesnt start.
