Carrier 38CKC036 Air Conditioner - Page 5 Questions & Answers
REPLACE CARRIER 38CKC CONDENSOR BEARING
Hello, usually that is a sign of liquid refrigerant entering the compressor. Before condemimg the compressor I would have them check the refrigersnt charge to make sure the unit is not overcharged and check that the airflow is good. If those are checked out to be good the unfortunatly a new compressor will be needed.
Relocate condenser
Hello, you can pump the refrigerant down into the condenser if service valves are equipped with the unit. Hook up gauges to the unit and close the liquid line service valve, then push in the contactor in with a insulated screwdiver or pencil and watch the low side gauge untill in drops to zero, once it drops to zero close the suction line service valve and the refrigerant will be stored in the condenser. Just make sure the unit has service valves, if it does not then the whole charge must be recovered.
Can you translate the model number please
I cant tell you the date it was made, only from the serial number. But the 036 tells me it is a 3 ton unit. There is 12,00 btu per ton of cooling, so on your carrier, 3x12=36, which will be the 036. That's about all I can give you on the number.Shastalaker7
8 year old Air conditioner
Outdoor units require there own power supply, check the breaker panel and the fuses in the disconnect switch box next to the unit if there are fused, If the capacitor that was changed last year was not the right rating or configuration it may need to be corrected. One of the most common mistakes is to find a dual run capacitor with on side not functioning and jump in a capacitor for the non functioning side, if this was done it needs to be corrected with the proper capacitor or capacitors.
Compressor shuts down after 30
Check and tighten all wiring. Replace the capacitor and add a HardStart to the capacitor.Check the indoor coil for dirt/dust/obstruction. Check the outdoor fan motor for over-heating.
The fan on the cooling
normally this will not affect the fan. it has an electric motor on it that has a breaker usually in the breaker box but sometimes it is in a subpanel. there are several things that can cause this like no power, low on freon, too much freon if you have just had it serviced, etc. with the power to the unit off, take a cloths hanger and put in the unit, being careful not to puncture the sides and see if the fan blades turn. if not then the motor is seized up. for some reason. even if the fan turns, you need a proffesional to take over as working with anything with freon is very dangerous not to mention the electrical components. it takes special equipment to check these. good luck
Compressor just stopped working, does
1. Is there high voltage(240 volts) power to the condensing unit?
2. Is there low voltage(24 volts) to the contactor?
3. Is the contactor pulled in and allowing 240 volt power thru?
4. Does the capacitor look burned or misshapen, is the top of the capacitor domed up?
If so the capacitor is bad and needs replacing.
If you have all the above items and the capacitor is good(the condensor fan should be running) and the compressor is still not running, then you need a professional to diagnose why the compressor is not running.
I have a condensor Carrier
The unit is 2.5 ton system. many units can replace the existing, you can upgrade to a 3ton if you wish without problems or upgraded ducting if enough ducting exist. Brands that will almost fit as is are Payne, Day and Night, Rheem, Ruud.
The reset button poped and it wont stay set
inspect all low voltage wiring inside blower, condensing, controls compartment and related switches for a short to ground or crossed to common. May also be short in thermostat, disconnect wiring from thermostat and see if the reset stays, may also be bad transformer.
