I don't believe your unit can be had anymore and I would not advise buying one used. They do however still offer "low profile" a/c's like this one:

I would most definitely contact the HVAC company and go over the work with them first before finishing the painting...
That leaves you more options...
Also check to see if they can just "re-insulate" the existing duct work...this may save you a lot of money...
Also look at just rolling out more fiberglass over the blown-in insulation as the blown-in still has somee effective R value as long as it is not wet...adding the fiberglass batts to it will just enhance the effectiveness without the cost of removal...
Of course just adding another few inches of blown-in will also add to your R value...

Something fell from the roof and broke the top (outside) of my

make sure the drain holes outside are not plugged,some water is retained by the unit to cool the compressor,but too much water will build up and drain inside

There are some ideas here including checking the batteries in the thermostat. The first thing to try is a full power reset. Turn off the power at the breaker to everything. I have found that turning off all power for a minimum of two hours will reset most errors,. When you switch the breaker back on, you will hear relays clicking as part of the self testing. Wait 15 minutes before operating the unit.

Well you need to set your defrost cycle on every 30min,that doesn't mean it comes on every 30 min,it just checks it,there's little black or white switches on the board and on the door it show you how to change them for your time,
