Is the foot resting on your fabric and not hovering above it? Do you have the bobbin threaded? It's the fabric too soft? These things can effect the stitch and how it holds.
Appears to be an older mechanical machine. Could be a belt is shot or possibly the machine has seized due to old oil that has dried. Seizing is very common in older machines that have not been cleaned and oiled regularly. AVOID trying to run the machine until you can address the problem. It could burn up the motor or break some parts. You can try repairing it yourself or take it for service.
Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...
Hi,
That's hard to say from what I've researched. Please search for the product on websites like Ebay and then use the results to gauge the average price of your product. You can also call some auction houses to ask them what the item might be worth. Thank you.
The Singer 4411 has a hidden switch to raise and lower the feed dogs. It's on the back of the machine near the presser foot. You have to remove (slide to the left, from the front of the machine) the extension table/accessory box to access the switch. Move the switch away from the body of the machine to raise the presser foot. See page 24 of the manual for the picture.
The manual is available on the product page: https://www.singer.com/heavy-duty-4411-sewing-machine. The current link to the manual is https://manuals.singer.com/Manuals/RetrievePDF/608 .
I hope this helps.

The Stylist 7258 does not have adjustable feed dogs. To do free-hand stitching (or darning), you need to put the darning plate over the feed dogs. This plate was included in the original accessories with the machine. You can buy a replacement from many sewing machine supply vendors, including https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/darning-plate-singer-087294.aspx .
The manual for the Singer Stylist 7258 is available on the product page: https://www.singer.com/Stylist-7258-Sewing-Machine . The current link to the manual is https://manuals.singer.com/Manuals/RetrievePDF/851 . See page 8, the accessories list, and page 12, using the darning plate.
I hope this helps.

Basically one drop of light machine oil on every joint or place that slides. You will notice some joints have a small hole to help you get the oil where it is needed and they are the most important places. Check out all the videos and written articles
