The problem must be simple. Bad cord? Bad switch at the hinge? It can be dismantled and tested for continuity with a multimeter.

My V3820 foodsaver stop/seal light is constantly

Thanks, Lee Eismann. This was very helpful. I was about to purchase marine silicone as you suggested (washing and drying the sealing gaskets did not solve the problem for this time, which it did several months ago when this problem occurred) when I realized I had can a spray silicone that I keep like WD-40 to lubricate moving parts when they squeak. I sprayed this on both sides of both gaskets as well as the sealing roller and it immediately solved the problem. This tip should be in the owner's manual as it's clearly a very common problem.

When replacing a bad gasket

Hi jab500...
I would recommend a good adhesive such as 3m Weatherstrip Cement or Contact Cement to glue the gasket in place. Use a small amount of cement, in case you want to replace the seal in later times.
By glueing the gasket in place with cement it will not come loose during use.

I have a v2420 and

This unit uses a small pump to create the vacuum. that pump is made out of an electrical motor that spins a shaft to which a plastic rotor with sliding blades is attached. This shaft and the rotor are encased in a plastic body that holds the bushings for the shaft and the seals for the air ports.
If the rotor or the bushing for the shaft got damaged in any way the blades will be thrown out of balance and hit the sides of the casing making the rattle noise. To fix that you will need to completely dismantle the unit and access the pump and see if its failed parts can be reattached or fixed - there are no replacement parts. If you can't fix it then the unit will have to be used as it is for as long as you can - when it will fail for good just buy a new one.

Cannot get any suction working

Hi margaretfint,

If you're experiencing problem with your vacuum and can't get any suction, it is often caused by the motor. Here are additional troubleshooting that you may apply to isolate the problem.

1. Remove the tube attachment from its cradle and, after turning on the vacuum, put your hand to the end of the tube. Is there any suction at all? If there is a little bit of suction then you may have a clogged air tube.

2. Check the vacuum bag. It may be very full. If it is then remove the bag and replace it with a new bag. Check the suction power again.

3. Check the tube attachment. Completely remove it from the vacuum. You usually have to twist and pull the tube attachment out of place at the point where it connects to the back of the vacuum. Check the suction power again. This time you place your hand on the vacuum right where the tube used to come out of the back of the vacuum.

4. If the suction power has improved then you probably have a clogged tube. Dog hair, people hair, leaves and more can get lodged in the tube slowly over time and then suddenly block the tube completely.

5. Clean the tube by first trying to shake the debris out of the tube. If this does not work then go outside and run a hose through the tube. Use a pressure nozzle if you have one. Run the hose through one end of the tube. Then run it through the other end. Repeat until the debris is disloged. Dry the tube and then reattach to the vacuum.

6. Check the air hose in the base of the vacuum. This hose is usually pretty short and you can see if there is any blockage. If you see blockage then try to remove it. You may need to reach into the hose with a tool (like a screw driver or something long).

7. If this did not work, then you may have a problem with the motor on your vacuum. If this is the case then you will need to take the vacuum in to a repair shop.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Foodsaver v2840 will not shut

This is typically a bad seal and the vacuum cant build enough pressure. You can usually dampen the black rubber seal with a sponge and water before you use the machine. this solves the problem most of the time.

Totally dead! No light, no nothing! 120vac being

There Hello,
Thereshould be 2 circuits, the vacuum motor and the sealer strip circuit. Of course the sealer strip should be controlled by the circuit board due to low voltage and the vacuum motor is either stepped down to 12 volts or direct 110v. Your best bet is to follow the circuit from source going downstream-testing with a meter for what is present at certain points. There is ,what is called a fusible link in many appliance circuits. It's like or is a fuse that is sealed . Burn out can only be confirmed with a continuity meter. It is wire in-line at power input. Repair by replacement only, requiring soldering or splicing . It should be easy to locate and replace. Good luck - Ned
