GE 13.7 cu. ft. General Electric Upright Freezer FUF14SUR Questions & Answers
Upper part of freezer not freezing
-
When the top half of a freezer is not working properly it is a sign that the air circulation within the freezer is not functioning. In other words, the freezer refrigerant is still working properly, but the cold air it produces isn't going anywhere: Instead, it is sinking to the bottom of the freezer (heat rises) where it does an excellent job of keeping that half of the freezer cold while missing the top section entirely.

The air circulation problem is usually caused by a fan issue. Find where your fan connects to the refrigerant system and pumps the air out into the freezer. If the fan blades are stuck or frozen, you may be able to loosen them or replace the fan. If the fan works mechanically but does not turn on the problem lies with the motor instead. In this case, you can replace the motor or call a professional it may also be fan or evaporator
I have an upright freezer
I looked at the parts diagram (GE model#FUF14SUDRWW) on Searspartsdirect. I didn't see an actual on/off switch, but it does show a temperature control switch in the inside of the unit. On some of the freezers, if you turn the knob all the way to the left, it acts as an off switch and kills the unit. It looks like the knob inside the cabinet, on the lower back right side (it could be upper..hard to tell by that diagram). If there is no knob, but an empty hole, then the knob is missing and you might have to turn the shaft with pliers to check it. If you get a click at one limit of the switch when it is turned, that means it is acting as an on/off switch. If nothing happens when turning it after the click, I would suspect a bad switch. Since the lights nor compressor are working, it would point at a switch. You can probably find it cheaper than Sears by googling the part # WR09X10064. I saw it as low as $84 at some of the appliance parts site. A local place might have a used one for cheaper.
Hope this helps
My kelvinator upright freezer stopped freezing and...
Start Relay/Overload or Compressor is bad. A bad compressor can make a Start Relay/Overload go bad but the only way to find out if compressor or Start Relay/Overload is bad is to replace the Start Relay/Overload if it starts and stays running you fixed it if Prob. returns in a week or so or if you have the same Prob. after replacing the relay the compressor is bad.
Yesterday, my dad brought me a working GE upright
You should try to un-plug the freezer and let it stand up-right over night to re-settle the freon back down inside of the compressor.
The compressor should normally get hot if it is doing it's job right, and there is a starter for the compressor motor (usually it looks like a large capacitor) that could have failed, or the defrost timer (if it has one) could be stuck, and you should be able to see the small dial on the defrost timer slowly turning, and if it does not turn, then replace the defrost timer.
I have a GE side by side freezer/refrigerator. The
When you say "The
items in the freezer are cold with some ice on them. I have tried
emptying the ice tray, but that does not help." Is there literally ice from the ice bucket dripping on the food and refreezing, or is there a layer of frost on the food? the noise you are hearing is most likely due to the evaporator fan motor running at alternating low and high speeds. This is a variable speed motor, but there could be quite a few reasons why the motor is not rotating at regulated speeds. the fan motor itself, a faulty thermistor, you could also have an issue with your main control board, or least of all a wiring issue.
You would be wise to have it inspected by a reliable refrigerator repair service, to at least determine what the problem is for certain.

Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. There are two types of relays you may encounter, wire coil and solid state. If the relay has an exposed wound wire coil it can be tested for continuity. Otherwise, the relay is of solid state design and requires specialized equipment for testing.
If the relay is ok the sealed system may have lost its charge of freon and you would need a qualified tech to check it.
My chest freezer (a Kelvinator) runs, but does not
Is your circulating fan working?
Sometimes they stick and need a shot of WD 40 and then work
it back and forth a little until it wants to take off again. Keep me informed

GE Freezer Not Freezing
I am not an expert, but if the defrost heater is not working, then maybe when it was unpluged the coils didn't completly unthaw. If not, the freezer still will not cool properly.
My GE upright freezer does not get cold.
Sounds like the system is low on freon. The other common problem is a dirty condenser. Insure the condenser is clean, if it is. You will need to charge the system with freon. Which only a qualified refrigeration tech should do.
My ge upright freezer dosnt
it should be notated on the compressor on the door and maybe inside the fridge. if my memory serves me correctly i think the clean air act states that it should contain r22. if nothing else you can call GE's support line and they can answer that question.
Good luck
The sides of the freezer are really hot
Is it really becoming excessivly hot or is it that you just have not been aware before. Most freezers generate heat when they are cooling down (yeah ok, so that sounds crazy). It may just be the freezer working hard to lower the temperature to get back to normal operating temperature
Ge chest freezer wiring diagram
Great question but I cannot answer it. GE makes several models of chest freezers and they are not all wired the same. My eyesight is not to good and I cannot see your freezer so I cannot answer your question. You might try our friend google and look for the make and model of your freezer with the prefix schematic.
