What looks like the second hand is the timer hand and starts when you push the top right hand button, you can download the manual for the watch off of the swisseagle website.The bottom right will stop it so you can record a time and then when you push it again it will jump on to where the timer is still running to show the current lap time, but if you push the top right button a second time after initially starting the timer it will just stop the timer and then pushing the bottom right button will reset the timer to 12.Hope this helps.
