Having gone over half a year without a response to my query, I assume a new set of batteries did the trick.

I have lost the disc

You may download the current version of all (free) Nikon software here. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries. Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

Can the screen be replaced?

Yes. If you want to do the work yourself, you can order the part here. Given the price, it may be more economical to simply buy a newer camera.

Is it worth fixing a broken LCD Screen on a Nikon

That's up to you, of course. You can get a new screen here, but the cost is about the same as a used L18, and not that much less than a new L22 or L24. If it was me, I'd replace the L18 instead of repairing it.

Press cursor-up on the multiselector (marked with a lightning bolt) to bring up the flash menu. Be aware that some modes do not allow you to control the flash. For example, you can't use the flash in sports and landscape modes, while the flash is always used in the night landscape mode.
