Check whether the belt is over tighten or not. If so by consuming over current this problem can occur. Try to loose the belt and check whether display shows the same symptom. Try to clean the dust inside the running belt and silicone them after. Then try to increase the belt tension. all treadmills have these adjustment. If it still slip, then problem with the motor.

Kelly if bearings are service able, white lithium grease should be fine to use, the spray can should come with a straw type nozzle allowing you to spray into bearing.

Same thing happens to my treadmill a few times a year, and this is how I got mine working again. I went outside to my main electricity breaker box and reset all the switches. Turn them off then on again. And then did the same thing to my small breaker that's on the wall in my house. Walla...It's working back to normal again!

Check the reset/off circuit breaker. If the circuit breaker has tripped, wait for five minutes and then press the switch to the reset button. You want the switch to be on reset, make sure that the power cord is plugged in. If the power cord is plugged in, unplug it, wait for five minutes, and then plug it back in. Remove the key from the console, reinsert the key into the console. A popping noise is never good, especially if a machine is powered on. It definitely sounds like an electric issue, you could try removing your main shroud, checking if your Motor Control Board (Circuit Board) is lighting up with the power on, inspect the board for any burnt or visually damaged parts, if any it is a probable cause of the issue. You can also check the fuses on your board if any for continuity, if they are bad replace them. The next thing is your main console, if you can swap it out with one you know is good then please do so, if you swap it and the machine works, the problem is your console. If not, you will need to further troubleshoot you machine.
