You are either:

1. Using symbols like "/" in the filename
2. Or doing what I was doing which was trying to save the file in an (accidentally) locked folder. To fix this - right click on the folder and get info - open up sharing and permissions and make sure that your username has full read write access. I also clicked on the settings cog button and applied this setting to everything in the contents of the folder. The folder had somehow corrupted during a network transfer and this is what was making inDesign not play ball.

Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated.

Then just click on the blue DOWNLOAD ADOBE INDESIGN CS2 - 4.0 button about halfway down the page, and then follow the onscreen instructions to download and install it. You will need your product key serial number to activate it.

has the file been downsaved as inx file from CS3. Then you can download patch from adobe.com to open the file in CS2

If you got it from a reputable dealer then contact Adobe and they will help you with the information you need.

You may have purchased a pirated copy of the software. You need to contact Adobe, and they will help you to determine the validity of your software purchase, and get you a new serial number or re-activate your current one.

You need to call Adobe. I have had this problem several times, especially with upgrades. Their product activation call center will walk you through the process.

If you want to upgrade to CS3, you will need the registration key to do so. If you don't have it, you will have to buy CS3. The upgrade package will require your registration key for CS2 to complete the installation.

Check the X coodinates in the upper left corner and make sure the art is placed or drawn to the guides or edges. A little more infomation would be extremely helpful.
Another thing to do is turn on the Overprint Preview. This is in the View menu. When you turn this on, you see how exactly things are placed/lining up instead of a low rez screen preview.
Are you converting a Publisher file to InDesign? If so, you will HAVE to fix this. Not an exact science. Even with the Utility, they are 2 totally different apps. InDesign will do it's best to maintain the look of the Publisher file, but Publisher was not created for high-end output, it has gotten better over the years... but it is still THE most problematic software for Printing.

I had the same thing happen to me on my laptop the harddrive died and I had to reinstall the CS software again, download the CS to CS2 compatability patch from Adobe, InDesign has several others run them and then restart it should work the link to the wWindows download area is: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=31&platform=Windows sorry I didn't ask if you were using Mac - I do both so I'll usually ask or cross reference.

Have you ever registered your software on adobe's website? Generally, with adobe products, you can log in and pull out your information and updates, etc. Have you been able to do this?

None of the keys are the same. You have the key somewhere, if this is new software. It may be on your installation disc or on the folder it was in or in the front of the installation booklet. If you can not find it you need to contact Adobe and have your receipt/serial number etc. handy.
