Fantom drive is not being detected. Shows a solid

Since you've already tried different cables and computers, that eliminates a lot of things. Are there any configuration switches?

Possibly a cable or connector has come loose within the unit, particularly the edge connector that connects to the drive itself. If the unit is under warranty, try that first, espcially if you don't have important files that could be lost on the drive if you had to send it in for repair or replacement.

If you open it up, re-seat the connectors --- push them firmly into the drive PC board. If possible, remove each and put it firmly back into place. If that doesn't fix it, something is probably burned out and it is probably not something one can handle without access to factory replacement parts.

When i turn on my fantom green drive the green

If the light turns on (mine was blue) but the drive is not recognized on your computer desktop that most likely means the drive does not have enough power. This happened to me too, and I took it to a computer expert and he said the drive was not even spinning. So it was either the external power source that broke or the internal power source, the power panel that broke. I took it to a batter plus and tested the wattage for the external power source and it was okay so then i took the entire drive apart and disconnected the naked hard drive from the power panel. Then I purchased "SATA to USB" cables (runs around 10-20 bucks) and connected the naked hard drive that way to the computer and it worked. So the problem is basically that the internal power panel is not working, and i had 2 fantom drives that both had this problem and they both worked after i did what i just said.. so I think your drive has the same problem since the light comes on but the drive is not spinning. Take it apart, buy some SATA to USB cables and it should work.

My computer doesn't recognize my fantom drive

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this data recovery program called asoftech data recovery to recover your files.http://www.facebook.com/pages/Asoftech-Data-Recovery/290956907592436?sk=info

My Fantom 500gb external drive got sun heat and turned off

First wait for it to cool down. If that fails then you may have to take it appart recover the internal disks from inside it and then use another hard drive to try and recover the data from them. If you dont want to have the hassle of all that then take it to an IT data recovery company and they'll see what they can do. But in all honesty its probably bricked.

Drive lights up but cannot see it on computer

The drive may most likely be dead. You can use a program like recuva to see files but you would need to see the drive. To see the drive you may have to take it out of its outer layer and connect the drive to a sata cable within the computer. The computer may recognize it that way. Now if that seems to difficult i recommend taking it to a computer repair shop where they can pull the data off for you or contacting the manufacturer and maybe the product is still under warranty.

When i turn it on

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x right click to reinstall drivers or if you can see your usb but its not working ports(com&lpt)right click update driver make sure the lead/s that attach to this drive have a secure seating and are not bad/faulty the light on only tells that its getting power it might not be getting enough power you might test the lead/s or just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable, check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems hope this helps

Blinking Lights

I had this EXACT same problem. Blinking blue light and the hard drive never powers on. VERY frustrating...I have a home studio was in danger of losing over a year's worth of original music. However, this problem has a solution which I read about on this site:
"The problem was with the power source not the actual drive so I ended up pulling the drive out of the case and purchasing a new case from Newegg.com. It now works fine and only cost about $30 to fix."

This is EXCELLENT advice and FixYa is the only place I read about this solution. Though I'm no newbie with computers, I certainly had never swapped out an external hard drive. But, in 30 minutes for about $30, this problem is TOTALLY SOLVABLE. I went to newegg.com and ordered this product:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817106095

an external Azio hard drive enclosure. Because I always used Firewire hard drives, I got an enclosure that accepted Firewire---however, many others are available with just USB 2.0. Following the directions that came with the enclosure, I removed my blue-light blinking, non-functional hard drive from its enclosure and placed it into the Azio. Now, the unit is working fine. No datawas lost and the Azio drive seems to be working properly.
THIS IS A FANTOM HARDWARE PROBLEM---NOT SOFTWARE PROBLEM! I encourage the MANY people who have complained about Fantom drives and gotten no assistance to try this solution and avoid Fantom in the future.
To whoever posted this solution: thanks a million. You made my day.

About 2-1/2 years ago I bought two Fantom GF500EU

If you just type in the manufacturer and the model number in your search bar there will be a multitude of places to get parts for this unit. Try to avoid the top few "sponsored" sites.

When I plunged in FANTOM

It is entirely possible that your external hard drive is failing. I would recommend downloading Seatools for Windows (link below) and run extended hard drive test on it. Chances are if it is failing, it still recognizes within the system, but it is not readable enough for windows to display it and allow you to browse.
