What do I do
my
Hi there,
Well the message "go to www.apple.com/support/ipod" usually is preceded by, or followed by, the Apple logo or the sad face icon. It directs you to the Apple support site because either the iPod software is corrupted or their is a hardware problem. You should try to reset the iPod (try several times). If that doesn't right the iPod, then try to restore it (which will erase the entire iPod and reload the software. you can also try to update the ipod software.
All the methods are below -
Reset your iPod -
This is the "catch-all, first try, let's hope it only needs a reset" step that everyone loves:
Toggle the Hold switch to on, then back to off (none of the red is showing).
Press and hold down the Menu and Select buttons for 10 seconds (until you see the Apple logo) as shown in the picture.
Typically most of the iPod freezing issues are overcome by performing this step.
Restore the iPod -
Alrighty then, let's pull out the big gun, the Restore.
When you Restore an iPod:
You delete everything on it (songs, pictures, movies, files, games, firmware, etc.)
Hey! That means any stuff that's on the iPod, but not in the iTunes library, will be lost.
iTunes reloads the iPod software with a fresh copy (i.e. factory settings).
So that's some serious firepower that blows away everything on the iPod.
Restoring an iPod:
Your iPod should be viewable under My Computer in order to restore.
If it is not, go here to force your iPod into Disk Mode and then follow the steps below.
Go to Start > Programs > iPod > iPod Updater (folder) > iPod Updater (program - use the most recent date)
The Update window will appear.
Connect your iPod.
When the iPod shows up, click Restore. A confirmation alert will appear.
When the restore is done, close the iPod Updater.
LEAVE THE iPOD CONNECTED!!!
Look at the iPod screen:
If you see a progress bar underneath the Apple logo, leave the iPod connected to the computer.
You may see an image of a wall charger. If so, plug the iPod into the AC adapter and wait.
With the restore complete and the iPod connected to your computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant will appear. This means the restore worked. Name the iPod and select your syncing preferences.
Update the iPod software -
If you can update/reload the iPod software, this may fix the problem that froze your iPod. This step will not affect the songs on your iPod.
First off, you'll need the latest version of iTunes.
If you don't have it already, go into iTunes, click Help and select Check for Updates.
After you are all nice and updated....
Connect the iPod to your computer and open iTunes (if not already open).
iTunes will see if a newer version of the iPod software is available, and prompt you to download and install it.
Follow any instructions that might come up.
The iPod display will display an Apple logo and a progress bar.
When this is completed, eject the iPod and check if it is now working.
Good Luck!!
Thanks
