Michael Smith... Hello,
Looks like we are
in luck...
My FAV website form "
MANUALS"...
Happens to have your
SERVICE & REPAIR manual:
Maytag JDB4000AW Service Manual
The actual description on page 29 is not all that
ILLUMINATING...
... and WORSE I WAS HOPING TO SEE A circuit DRAWING to confirm what I already knew..
"
Com" takes the POWERED SIDE... (
hot when running)
"
NC" (normally closed) goes to the
WATER VALVE.
During the sequence of washing...
the controller applies power to the "
COM"...
when the
FLOAT SWITCH... is NOT floating power
continues to be "
ON" to the
WATER-VALVE...
When the water get to the
operational (float
)
level the "
NC" (normally closed).. OPENS and shuts
OFF the
WATER VALVE.
I ONLY looked halfway through the "service" manual...
before I came to the conclusion there were NO SUCH
circuit or schematic drawings... (verified on 2nd pass).
Even after to careers in
electronics... I hate working on
ELECTRIC stuff... My personal pleasure would be to invite you to look at the No Contact Volt Tests... (
NCVT)
Amazon com no contact volt test
For between $10 & $20 you can be the proud owner of a
NCVT... Mine is a KLEIN... (long ago.. & far away).
Turns red & chirps... when it gets near power
(so I won't have to (turn
RED or chirp)).

Still got it... Still love it...!!
Hope this helps...
and I am glad to hear it is a long story rather than a
tragic one...!!
Give your darling Pekingese message for me...
