Constant Defrost causing water accumulation problems

Yes! look under you fridge for the consendate drain hose *(usually dangling right over the catch tray) and using a long piece of slightly heavy guage wire snake up the drain hose and see if it's blocked.

If it isn't blocked you might have a crack somewhere in the fridges interior near the fridge/freezer interface. That might be a bit harder to spot since it would most likely be under cover.

Good luck and be careful.

Hotpoint Whirlpool upright freezer. The lights

Problem has sorted itself out. We removed and gave away quite a lot of food from the freezer and cleared away some ice that had accumulated on the temperature sensor. When we checked this morning the temperature had returned to -24 C so we don't need to go in search of a new freezer today, thank goodness!

The compressor on my refregerator seem to be

The doors should be warm. There or heaters in the doors or what they call a yodelers loop in the frame around the doors that keeps condensation from forming. Make sure the fan if blowing on the compressor and the fan inside the freezer is also running. If so be sure there is no ice built up on the bottom inside back panel of the freezer. If so you will have a defrost problem and the coil is full of ice and not allowing the air to flow through it and cool the fridge. If there is ice, the heater behind the panel is most likely bad.

Everything has defrosted the lights are still on.

If this is a self defrosting unit, the defrost timer may be stuck in the defrost cycle. Or perhaps the cold control went bad, or even the compressor or starting relay burned out.

I have whirpool fridge freezer american style and

Check the coil at the back of the freezer for ice buildup. Should there be ice build up, have it defrosted and cleaned. If that does not solve it check out the thermistor, also located at the back at a panel. It may have gone bad.

Thermostate need replacing

Good day,
I see you're not from the states. You'll have to google to find the thermostat. Isn't there an appliance parts house in your area?
Two, generally replacing a tstat is a nuts and bolts proceedure.
Once you have it in hand, it will be far easier to understand.

Defrosted freezer -

Melody, It appears that possibly either the kids accidentally turned the freezer off, or something being taken out/put into the freezer, got pushed into the control knob and caused it to turn off. (Just trying to help the kids avoid taking the full blame with that one!)

The good news is that your freezer is probably fine and just got turned off somehow. You can put it back to the middle setting and adjust it from there to get the coldness you want for whatever you're keeping in it, (meats, ice cream, veggies, etc.)

The indicator lights are to let you know that you have power going to the freezer and the other one lets you know that the freezer is working and the compressor is operating. I'd keep an eye on it for the next few days though, just to make sure that everything is working the way it should, just in case. You can take an old plastic milk jug (1 gallon size) and fill it with tap water and put it in the freezer on the middle shelf. If after 3-5 days, the temperature is staying cold enough, the jug of water should be fully frozen. You can also put in a load of bread and see if that freezes nicely after a day. If the above items are properly frozen after 1 and 3 days, then your freezer is working properly and the culprit was very likely, just the control knob getting turned off, somehow.

I'd also suggest that you might want to lock the freezer, if your's has one, to help minimize any chances of the settings getting changed, etc. Of course, if you've got ice cream and kid snacks stored in there, then your children will keep looking until they find the key anyway!

You should check any of the food items you had stored in the freezer and if they got defrosted completely, you'll likely have to toss it all out, the only exception is bread, (which is typically not much good once it's been frozen anyway), but can be used to "fill-up" the freezer to keep it operating efficiently when you don't have much stored in it. I usually just mark the bags of old thrift store bread with the date I put it in the freezer and toss it after a year.

Bread is an inexpensive way to load up the freezer so it runs better and helps save you some energy costs, even when you don't have much other higher priced food in it.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

What is the proper way to store an empty chest

I would suggest wadding up about enough newspapers , to completely cover the bottom of the freezer . The ink in the newspaper , will absorb any odor that is in the freezer or can get in , while being stored . This is also , the only way known in the area , to remove fish , or bad meat odor . Takes a little more newspaper for that though .

Freezer comes on fan starts after a few seconds

Good day,
When the thermostat is turned on, the fan and compressor should come on and start at the same time. If the compressor continues to run and the fan doesn't, then the fan motor or the wiring to it are suspect.

Quote (The fan motor is o.k ). I doen't know how you tested it, but it still remains suspect, since the thermostat sends power to both of them at the same time.

Ice maker will only cycle once then it goes to off

That bar your talking about goes to the full up position just before the end of the harvest cycle then falls right at the end of the cycle. But on a good day it barely drops. Characteristic of that ice maker.
If you ran water over the ice maker try these 2 things.
1. Remove the ice maker and leave it on the counter for about 2 days to completely dry out. Then re-install and try again.
2. If no luck, hang a small weight to the middle of the wire to see if it will drop on it's own.
3. If no luck, you'll have to replace the ice maker. However,
if your commited to buying a new ice maker, first snap off the front cover and look for interference where the wire goes into the ice maker. You can actually remove the whole solid state front end by removing the 3 screws that hold it on and make a more detailed check.
P.S. pull the wire out of the ice maker before this last step. It simply pulls out.
