Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition for PC Questions & Answers
Problem with My Briefcase in Windows Vista
Hello, I thought Vista was retired some time ago through being a little unreliable. Now as far as Windows XP even though it was an old favorite there is no comparison in what it did and Windows 10, I have both a Surface Pro 4 tablet computer and a desktop both have Windows 10. I do wonder why people stay with even XP as it is not supported by Microsoft now and that in itself is a great risk. Thanks.

I have Vista for Business on a computer. Suddenly the log on picture shows on the screen, but the computer says the user information is unavailable and won't let me log in!
This sounds like a failed update. Restart the computer and hit either F2 or F8 or possibly Tab or Delete once the splash screen comes up. This should give you a windows startup option for safe mode. Click Safe Mode with Networking and let the computer startup. This will bypass all current startup items and possible problematic services. Login and start up Task Manager. View startup items and look to see if anything is starting up that says "Windows Update" or if anything else stands out that shouldn't be there. Names that are random garbled letters, etc. Disable these for normal startup. Now click on control panel under start menu and go to windows update and see if any updates failed to install. If they did, disable install automatically in windows update.
After this go to "run" and type in msconfig. Click normal startup, hit apply, when the message that says "restart computer" pops up click yes and let it restart the computer normally.

How to i use ophcrack for vista password recovery using a usb
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ss/ophcracksbs.htm you can use other software like isoburn or imgburn usually to make a bootable usb if you use that program probably or windows password reset. I have done it before and just boot to usb by pressing f12 or whatever function key gets you to your boot options. If you want you could also change boot device order in bios settings but then you need to change them back after, so its more steps than necessary. I personally haven't used ophcrack but I'm sure it works similarly to the other password recovery software. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Now, having said that, remember if you are going to create and use a DVD of Windows Vista for Business you must have a legal COA (license key) and it must be used under the right licensing agreement. In general that means you can't use just any key from any place you happen to get it. You must use a unique key ... usually one that nobody else is using... and it must be for the type of system (brand make and model) for which it was sold. It is technically possible to sometimes ignore these rules, but not ethically possible. Just a reminder that software piracy is stealing.
good luck
