Minn Kota Maxxum 70 Freshwater Bow Mount Trolling Motor Questions & Answers
My trolling motor- 2007 70# Minnkota Powerdrive V2 seems to lose track of where it's at. I replaced both control boards and it still wanders off.
If you have already replaced the control boards and the trolling motor still seems to lose track of its location, there are a few other things you can check:
- The propeller may be damaged or bent, causing it to steer off course. Inspect the propeller for any visible damage and replace it if necessary.
- The motor's GPS sensor may not be functioning properly. Check to make sure the sensor is clean and free of debris. You can also try recalibrating the sensor according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- The wiring connections may be loose or corroded, causing intermittent power to the motor. Check all wiring connections for tightness and signs of corrosion, and clean or replace as necessary.
- The foot pedal or remote control may be malfunctioning, causing the motor to steer off course. Check the foot pedal or remote control for any damage or loose connections, and replace or repair as necessary.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to take your trolling motor to a professional repair shop for further diagnosis and repair.

Good day ,
The next time the pin comes out have a close look at it if it has little raised grooves in it that is what is supposed to hold it in.
if so put a little lock tight on the pin and push it back in it should hold again
good luck

Does the splice get hot when you are running the motor? If yes, then the splice could certainly be the problem. I would have replaced the wire completely. However, the problem more than likely is the controller.
Old outboard ground wire melting
1. Short in the trolling motor itself
2. TOO SMALL a ground wire. ..need at least 8 gauge wire!!!!
3. Bad/dirty/corroded battery connections
..Make sure your battery/trolling motor is not accidentally touching the metal boat.. DO NOT CONNECT ANY WIRES TO THE BOAT!!! - PERIOD!!.
Vantage bows fuses
if you have fuses on your motor they will be hooked to the end of your motor cables at battery most is a little silver box check to see if they tripped little black button on side push them in
CAN YOU REPLACE BRUSHES
Sure can!
Chances are if you need brushes, you should do a clean up of the motor as well.
If there has been no water intrusion then the job is fairly easy, if water has gotten
into the motor you'll need to spend some time and elbow grease cleaning it out .
Always replace the seals, they come in a kit and are inexpensive. At a repair shop average
repair bill shouldn't be more than $70-90 for this including parts.
Parts can be purchased here: www.mikesreelrepair.com
Have 12/24v 55lb thrust Brute.
The wires melt because the current thru them is way too high - when using 24v it should be half than when using 12v. Have you made sure the correct voltage is selected? You have to make the wiring switch to use 24 volts otherwise if you are using 24v on the 12v circuit the current will be twice what the circuit was designed to support .
I have a minn kota
Ok, I have done this quite a few times so take heed, I am not familiar with the
MK65 but I am sure the principal is the same on all of these motors..
Take off the top half of the plastic head and look on the center shaft.
Your two foot control wires wrap around a plastic spool which sits on the shaft
with a spline fit.
If you have not done this before, get a pad and pencil and draw the way the
wires come in, lay and attach in that plastic spool - because when you pull it
off, if they come off you will be scratching your head wondering what the hell
you did. You can figure it out but why think if you don't have to, its not as
simple as it sounds because spool rotates, the wires wrap round and round etc..
Slack your cable tension adjustment screw in the footpedal all the way off,
then what you have to do is slide that plastic spool off, and rotate it until
you have the right position. The object of this, is to have the motor set
pointing straight ahead, with your footpedal in the middle incline position, so
you have full travel in each direction up and down.
When you do this, you have to be aware that with the cables loose, they can
come off the cams in the footpedal if you don't keep tension on them.
Good luck.

Minn kota 74 lbs. prop runs when head turns when rotating motor from centre to right, but stops when you turn motor from centre to left. The light on top stays on.
Have 12 V bow mount trolling motor that doesn't
Hello, You have several points to check. #1 check your wiring connections--- plug, plug socket, wiring connections internal of trolling motor, condition of wiring to battery, battery terminal connection & charge of battery. #2 borrow someones DVM (digital multimeter) and check the resistance of the speed control as you turn it without any wires connected to it. #3 if problem not found take 2 aspirin and E-mail me of test results "for further review".
Trolling motor stays on same speed no matter where
I just recently had a simialr problem. No speed control and motor only ran at 100. I talked to the minn kota tech rep and sent him my control board and he said it had a bad potentiometer...however, I had to buy a control board to fix the problem ($215). Hate to say it but sounds like you may need a new control board.
