Hello, sounds like rhe solenoid valve is stuck open. This will keep water flowing through the humidifier even if the Furnace is off. The solenoid valve will have to be replaced.

Perhaps your machine stops when it has reached the desired humidity level you selected. It doesn't have to be empty when it reaches that selected level. My mother thought the same thing but was so relieved to find out it was working properly all the time.

I have had times where my Crane humidifier won't produce mist if I haven't turned it on for several days (4+) or more. The water that sits in the reservoir may develop a film on the ultrasonic element which inhibits the creation of the mist to come out the top of your humidifier. I would lift off the tank and empty the reservoir. Then VERY GENTLY with a piece of paper towel, wipe the ultrasonic element (looks like a disk the size of a quarter at the bottom of the reservoir) to clean off any film. Then replace the tank and let the reservoir fill up the tank and try it again. If your humidifier runs properly for a minute and then makes a whirring noise and goes silent (like the motor stopping), then it's a motor problem. The humidifier motor may have gone out of alignment due to bumping or rough handling of the humidifier when cleaning or emptying it. If that is the case, you will have to empty the humidifier reservoir, unscrew the base, and find the screws holding down the motor and check for misalignment. Loosen them a little and put it back together and try again. Best of luck thebqe

Remove the mist direction cap (dark plastic piece where the mist comes out.) You should find a small plastic cup with an attached cap. Put the essential oil in the cup, snap on the cap, and put it back into the mist exhaust, and replace the mist direction cap.

check thermal cut off is working presuming that there is power to the switch

I it has a top reserve tank like a water cooler bubbler, look for a crach ANYWHERE in the tank. it could be around the filler hole or cap or like mine which is a different brand, I found it UNDER the glued on handle that is meant to lift the tank off from the unit for filling. Good luck.

Make and model would be nice to know, they use either a vegetable grease of vasoline on the cap threads and seal. The cleaner took that off. You need get something like wood slats to spread the torque out on the cap and then use water pump pliers on it.

If it's a de-humidifier, it is made to take the water out of the air. Usually you will need to take the water out of the de-humidifier that gets condensed out of the air. An air humidifier works in the opposite way and would need to have water added to re-humidify the air.

Which model do you have? On the H12 and 696 series models, F indicates refill the humidifier; the reservoir bottle is out of water. The CF means check the filter/wick. Replace the wick if appropriate. The CF message will appear every 720 hours of run time for the humidifier. It will be reset when the unit is unplugged or loses power. Look for a deadman button somewhere the filters touch the frame. Prevents them from running without filters and prevents an unwanted manicre.
