Computer; Medion MD8383 Windows XP

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electrical extension or fan lead can cause this problem

computers need all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly

a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

also check the Cmos battery and computer ram make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets

hope this helps you

Hard drive does not spin up and ciruit board heats

You can try replacing the control PCB make sure that you get the exact model and firmware replacement you can get these on e-bay quite easily you will need a star drive set to remove it and an antistatic wrist strap this make be all that is required. If your motor still wont spin after this then you don't have much hope on retrieving your data you can try the fridge trick overnight in a ziplock bag then try to recover to a new HDD

It seems that the fuse for that board has blown

I don't know if WD are like Maxtor but M won't supply you with a replacement pcb - they want you to buy a new drive.
If you can find an IDENTICAL WD drive buy it. Take care and remove the circuit board from the new drive. (It's very straightforward). Now remove the circuit board from the duff drive and replace it with the board from the new drive.
Plug it in and test. Does it work? Does it mount?. Now copy all the data from the drive onto something else as a priority. Once you have completed the transfer, remove the drive, remove the circuit board and refit it to the new drive. Mount the new drive, format it and then copy all your files back again.
Use the new drive and keep the old for safe-keeping.
The only thing that can go wrong (other than being ham-fisted) is that there is a problem with the old drive that has caused the fuse to blow and it could well cause the fuse in the new Circuit board to blow. But that's a chance you've got to take if you want your data back.

I have a 2.5

In the back of my head, I seem to remember a jumper setting, limiting to 32Gb. WD usually has their drives plainly marked. A trip to their website will confirm or disprove. The reason I think that this is the answer is that PM only sees 32Gb.

What is the third external connector besides the power and SATA connectors ?

In some cases an IDE connector is added to RAID Hard Drives or Industrial grade desktop computer drivers.. it's a backwards compatibility measure in case of failure. Other driver may also include an IDE power source too.. Those IDE connections are also known as (PATA) or Parallel.

One short beep one long beep coming from hard drive

..as i know when HDD start beeping ( internal or portable ) that indicate problem with the Hard Drive (HDD)..so nothing you can do it by your self ....if the HDD is under warranty from factory you may take it to the store that you buy or nearest Western Digital distributor to claim the warranty...but if it doesn't in warranty..that's mean a problem why?because if HDD start beeping like you have, the possibility to make it work again is almost impossible that mean you maybe lost the data that you save in this HDD..
