It needs a new drive chassis, you will have broken the little plastic tabs that hold the tray level and straight! you can replace the drive but the new drive will need either the old logic board off the broken drive fitted to the new drive or the dvd key dumped off the old drive and flashed to the new one to make it work.

I will provide a step by step process on how to open up or disassemble the xbox 360, the steps takes You all the way to the lens. Pleas get these instruments(Bath towel, Flat-edged screwdriver, #15 Torx screwdriver, Phillips jeweler's screwdriver, Tweezers, White glove, Compressed air) then follow the steps below:

1. Unplug the Xbox 360's power cord and remove any cables, game controllers and USB flash drives connected to it. Place a bath towel on a table. Place the console vertically on the towel with the faceplate facing up.
2. Grip the left top side of the faceplate and the bottom right side. Pull the left side of the faceplate to the left and the bottom right side up to remove it from the console.
3. Rotate the console so that the vent-like holes are on either side. Insert the tip of a flat-edged screwdriver into each of the holes and lift up to release the inner clips.
4. Place the console face down on the towel. Raise the shelf on the bottom to reveal the screws beneath it. Remove these screws with the Torx screwdriver. Return the console to an upright, horizontal position on the towel. Grip the sides of the console and pull the outer case off.
5. Remove the screws at the back panel with the Torx screwdriver. Pull the back panel off the console. Pull the plastic inserts on either side of the console off. Remove the screws from the metal shield on the top of the console with the Torx screwdriver. Pull the metal shield off.
6. Locate the DVD drive that is on the console. The DVD drive is a rectangular metal box with a warning sticker on the top. Remove the screws from around the drive with a Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Lift the drive up and pull the two cables out of its back.
7. Place the DVD drive on the towel face down. Remove the screws from the sides of the drive with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Slide the case off the drive.
8. Turn the drive over. Locate the lens assembly at the center of the drive. Remove the screws from the clip placed on the drive that is next to the spindle at the center of the lens assembly with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.
9. Remove the clip. Grip the lens that is under the clip with a tweezers. Remove the lens from the lens assembly and dispose of it in the trash.
10. Put on a white glove. Pick up an edge of the replacement lens with the hand that is wearing the white glove. Place the lens in the depression that was formerly occupied by the original lens. Rotate the lens to seat it in the depression. Place the clip back on and reattach the screws. Blow off the lens and laser assembly with a burst of compressed air.
11. Place the back panel on, reattach the screws and return the plastic inserts to their original positions on the console. Place the outer case back on. Turn the console over and reattach the screws to the bottom. Return the console to its original location, reattach the cables, game controllers and USB flash drives to their original positions. Plug the power cord back into a wall outlet.

take the hard drive on the top off, blow in it, make sure that there isn't dust build up and then put it back on, check your disk also and make sure it isn't scratched, also ensure your harddrive isn't filled up, ensure there is memory left so your system isn't overloaded.

You need to look up the procedure for REFLOWING your machine. I fix PS3's this way and XBOX systems also work after this process. Hope this helps...

Hi, what do you mean by 2 stripped screws do you mean the pins the x clamps fit onto or have you removed the xclamps and used normal m5 machine screws,
if its the xclamp pins then use pliers or mole grips
if its the m5 machine screws then you have 2 options either get a decent set of mole grips and lock these onto the head of the screw and these should then get it undone or you will have to drill them out using a tap and die set.

let me know what screws are threaded, mole grips should do it as these clamp on

...HDD has red ring? No, you cannot replace it with ANY hard drive, it needs to be a microsoft xbox 360 hard drive

Unfortunately, replacing your disk drive is not something that a normal user can do. You will need to call Microsoft support at (800) 469-9269 and see if they can fix it for you.

You might have to have the video card changed to support a video out port. You can do it yourself if you know how, otherwise take it to the shop. You might want to do some further research because I'm not 100% sure but it's just a hunch, good luck!

ok i had same problem,,,go to xbox live site online on ur computer first,,sign up for it then,,go to it on xbox,,,,thats how i had 2 do it,,

If this happens on all games you play then yes it is a hardware issue, probably the system overheating. In that case it is probably still under warranty and you just need to call Microsoft at 1-800-4-My-Xbox and they will replace or repair your system for you for free.

Try the following step in order to make XBox 360 read the disks;
1. Go To Setting
2. Console Setting
3. Startup
4. Set It to Disc then reset your Xbox 360

gettig E74 on the screen? You will need to reflow the graphic chip. Not an easy task.

DO NOT OPEN YOUR XBOX 360 CONSOLE!
Microsoft will fix it for free with free shipping. Takes about 2 weeks.
There is video and different ways to fix it online but it will happen again with those half baked solutions. Sometimes 1 week sometimes 6 months but it always happens again. Also, Microsoft adds another year to your warranty and a card to a free month to xbox live.

Make sure the game doesnt have any finger prints on it. If thats not the reason then try a laser lens cleaner you can find them at wal mart if the problem persists you may need to have your laser lens replaced.

first you unplugg the whole thing then start plugging on cord in at a time some of the hardware in the cords might of broke and that would do it i know
