Stoves 720EF Electric Double Oven - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Oven doesn't seem to heat up enough
There is a cooling fan In a STOVES 720 to keep the fabric of the oven cool. If this fails the overheat thermostats will cut in and shut the heating elements off. The cooling fan does in fact blow air out of various places in and around the doors. The top oven has a small element and takes a long time to warm up. If you are not confident that the thermostats are working correctly, then I suggest you purchase an oven thermometer from someone like Lakeland and see how that relate to what you are actually setting on the cooker dial. As I said the top oven leave a lot to be desired!
The grill gets hot but doesn't brown the food?
Normally, if a grill element fails, it just stops working. So if they are working then on full power, both elements should get red hot! If this is the case, all I suggest is that you try experimenting with different heights with the grill tray. And by the way, don't shut the door when you are grilling as this shuts the grill off!
Fan oven not getting warm
It is normally the element that has gone, located behind the fan. A long shot could be the thermostat. Have a look at the thermostat sensor. It will be located in the oven at the back somewhere. It should be clean and bright and not covered in dirt or grease etc. If it needs a clean, use a spray cleaner and do not treat it to harshly. The thin wire leading from it is quite fragile! However, if you decide to replace the heating element, I would suggest that you replace the thermostat as well because quite often the element blowing damages the thermostat, which could lead it to fail, it it hasn't already done so, at a later date.

I have a stoves cooker
The clue will be when the rcd trips out. If everything is switched off on the cooker with the exception of the clock when you power it up and then it trips out, it could be in the wiring to the oven from the control switch and or the wiring in the oven. The only way you are going to find this is to take the oven out of the housing and test the wiring, isolating components until you find the problem.
The glass panel behind the
The best bet is STOVES for a replacement - if they have one. It is relatively straightforward to replace. With all the buttons and knobs removed, there should be two screws underneath the panel , i.e. pointing upwards at either end of the panel,. The panel will also have two lugs along the top edge that locate into the top off the oven. The panels lugs should be first located into the oven before the screws are inserted. It may be a bit of a struggle but can be done.
Hello, can you help,
It could be that the clock is on the way out, or the buttons that control the clock have dirty contacts. espares can get you a new clock/timer. What you can do is with the oven switched off, rapidly press all the clock buttons one at a time to try and remove the dirt. Switch the oven back on and see what happens. If you need a handbook, post an email address and I will send you a pdf copy.
I have answered other posts in this section on how to use the timer, so check there if you don't have the information.
Clock constantly flashes `A` and
It looks like the clock has failed. Try leaving the power off for at least 10 mins, turn it back on at the main switch and then try it. If it still doesn't work Espares can get you a new one. Incidentally, if there is power to the oven, the grill will work even if the clock is not set.
Just moved, can not get stoves double oven to work
On the main oven, does the circulating fan at the back of the oven start to rotate when you switch it on and does the fan oven neon illuminate as well.
For the top oven, the heating element is not very big so the oven takes a long time to warm up. Does the top oven neon illuminate when you switch this on as well?
Where can i buy new
Any good electrical retailer should have oven lamps. They need to be "oven lamps" because of the heat. You may wish to take one out to check its size and rating before you buy. All four lamps in the oven are the same. To get them out, you will need to remove the glass cover. To do this you should see a little lip on the edge of the cover facing you from the front of the oven. Insert a blunt screwdriver or something similar and twist it, that should be all the force that is required. If there is oven grease around the cover it may take a little more effort. There are cut outs on the glass to allow for the bulb. ALSO, don't attempt to do it if the oven has been used because the covers get very hot. When the oven is cold, briefly turn the switch to the first position to put the lights on, without the heating fan. Have a look to see what to do and you should be OK.
Earth switch keeps tripping when
I would imagine that somewhere within the oven, the electrical insulation is breaking down. The only way to isolate the problem is to disconnect the circulating fan and element one item at a time to see what is causing the problem. Unfortunately, you will have to take the whole oven out of its carcass to take the rear panels off the get to the wiring. Any decent electrician should be able to work out what is causing the problem. I would take a bet that it is the oven fan that is causing the problem, but don't take it for granted!
Model 720EF. Model No
First things first. The top oven lights ONLY come on when the top oven is switched on. Operating the grill DOES NOT turn the lights on. If you wish to see what you are grilling, you have to turn the top oven control knob on to its first position as well as turning the grill on.
Secondly, the grill only works when the door is open. The grill does not work when you shut the door. When you open and shut the door, you should be able to hear the microswitch operating. It is located in the right hand side of the cooker, between the inner and outer panels - you cannot see it. I haven't seen the switch first hand but they normally come with an arm that contacts the door mechanism and the door mechanism operating, causes the arm to move, which causes a button on the switch to move and make the circuit. It has been known for the arm on the microswitch to bend with use so it no longer works correctly.
If you have checked all above and you hear the switch operating, then it could have failed. They are quite common, so if you can't get one from STOVES, try espares or someone like Maplin or RadioSpares.
The get to the microswitch you have to take the oven out of the housing and then take the right hand panel off. You should then be able to see it and check its operation.
All the best
