One hour is about 14 gigs when transfered 100% uncompressed. After editing and compression though the file size is very manageable.

Good news awaits.

Go onto JVC site and check, there has been a recall on these cams and although it ran out in DEC 2009, they are collecting mine for a free repair on Mon 28th June 2010.

The problem you seem to have is the thin wires that carry the picture to the LCD screen may be broken or making and breaking, you certainly wont be able to repair yourself, get it to a good camera shop for first aid.
