To use a USB flash drive with the LG 42LD550, the drive must be formatted as a FAT32 or NTFS device. The drive should be 32GB or less. Not all USB devices will be recognized - this can be a driver issue. (I've had a few devices that didn't take a USB flash drive, if the drive required a driver to run under Windows 98.) If you use an external drive (portable or desktop), keep the drive capacity to 1 TB or less. Next what files are on the drive? This TV will only recognize JPG images, HD DivX (.avi and .divx) movies and MP3 audio files. The not all codecs may be supported with these formats. Some people report losing the ability to play movies after certain firmware updates. If the drive has too many folders or files in a folder, it may not work. (This will happen sooner with the FAT32 format.) See page 96 of the user manual to see the file format limits on the USB port. The GCC-5241P should get any available drivers from Windows Update's Plug and Play option, if you have Windows Update set to retrieve device drivers. The only drivers supplied with the external drive were for Window 98 SE. Looking at the online pictures of the GCC-5241P, the drive used a serial to USB adapter. If you have connected the drive to your computer, go to the Device Manager. (Right click on the Start button and look for the appropriate line or left click and type the phrase). Look in the appropriate sections (Ports, Human Interface Devices and Universal Serial Bus) for a driver with an exclamation point in a yellow triangle. Double click on this item and check the various tabs to get the details that Windows used to identify the device. This might be a Prolific USB to UART/Serial/Printer device. If so, you need to know which chip and the version. A common Prolific serial to USB is the PL2303. The drivers for this are available here: http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/ShowProduct.aspx?p_id=225&pcid=41 . Depending on the version, this driver may not work. If you have a different device, try Google to find any specific drivers. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells (I have several devices around that used the Prolific chipset. If you touch the text area for a few seconds, a Paste window should pop up. To text more than one person create an mms thread with all their names. There's an app titled Anywhere that will do mms messages, if you need one.

HI, What is the device ?/ .. If it's an LG phone the volume controls are either on the side or the back.

Like above budgail said, its a tv remote issue. If you can get the original remote and press exit, your good. But if it still hasn't gone away, looks like an update for the tv got screwed up.I would suggest call LG and see if they can help you from there. Here is the number to call 1 (888) 542-2623

The video circuit is compromised and perhaps the circuit board was damaged. This can happen via power surge or age of the devices. With proper test equipment the video circuit can be traced to find the problem.

How do I get Netflix to work on my LG Smart TV? To do so:

1. Press the Smart button on your remote.
2. Then click the More icon near the bottom right.
3. Hover the pointer over the the Netflix App and a small x will appear above it. Click the x.
4. Open the LG Store App, search for Netflix, then choose Install.

Old computer technicians trick. 1st, remove the battery and unplug from any power. Hold the power button down for about 10 seconds to short the board and clear any charge left in the capacitors. Plug in power supply and press the power button. It should boot up fine and you can put the battery back in.

Press and hold the following keys at the same time: Volume Down Key + Power/Lock Key on the back of the phone. Release the Power/Lock Key only when the LG logo is displayed, then immediately press and hold the Power/Lock Key again. Release all keys when the Factory hard reset screen is displayed.

Press and hold the power button for 5 to 7 seconds. This will do a factory reset on unit. The unit will turn off, then back on. Hopefully this will help. That unit does not have the small hole in front to eject disks like a computer unit does.
