If it is brand new, and has never been installed on any computer, then contact trend micro.

You could have the wrong version for you version of windows, you could have malware that's stopping it, you could have bought a bad key.
Your registry could be full of errors. Just a whole bunch of problems you could have.

Usually when something like this happens, you get an error code or a reason, which you did not post.

You may have got a virus on your computer that has disabled the virus program. Trend Micro is a good program and I use it but no virus scanner is 100% safe even if you keep it updated often. You may have installed a program that has disabled it. First shut off windows restore in the control panel. Then re-boot the computer and press F5 when the computer is booting up and this will bring up a menu. Then boot windows into safe mode with networking. Then see if Trend will update virus files and run a complete scan. If it can't the go to www.trendmicro.com and use their housecall program to do a complete virus scan on the computer. If no virus is found then you will need to try to find the program that caused Trend to stop working and remove it. Do you have more than one virus scanner installed like spysweeper. If you do then you will need to un-install that program. Then reboot computer and try to re-install trend.

This is a software discrepancy. You need to reinstall the software. There might be a case ( Extreme Case ) - This might be due to Virus or corruption of any file.

Best option - Uninstall the software. Again Install it. You can put the license number and then update. I believe it is more likely corrupted and it's a glitch in the software that might affect the security.

Log back in and shut it down using task manager.

it may not be frozen....it can take up to an hour sometimes if other programs are running in the background. If you can't wait stop it from running. Go into task manager and shut down all other programs then restart scan. you don't need to scan to turn on firewall. You can do that first.

I have had similar problems after trying to activate and update on my customers computers. I know it is Trend Micros servers that are down for maintenance. Wait a day or two and then try again and it will work. Your computer is protected during this time even though it is not activated/updated.

remove the current antivirus. it may be defected or currupted. Install the original version of any antivirus properly.dont use the piarated cd's. it affect on ur pc system.

The problem is not your computer...it is the Trend Micros server. Try running at night whe less people are on. Their server seems to be under maintenance allot.
