Connecting my magellan maestro 3200 to my computer
normally, connecting a gps to a computer results in file explorer opening and displaying the file structure. A phone does the same thing. The gps may need to be set for that - Garmin is automatic.
a program that takes coord input needs to have the gps set to match what it wants as in nmea, garmin, etc.
What is a sd/mmc card
USE IT! go out and buy at least a 2GB and backup your device I didn't and now I don't have any maps at all! Trust me its worth the 15 bucks!
DO YOU NEED TO UPDATE OR WILL IT STILL WORK?
Most updates fall into 2 categories: a) Firmware update. Corrects a problem(s) found in the firmware since the previous version that may provide more reliable operation, additional features, removal of features or other changes the manufacturer wants, and b) Maps update. Updates the installed maps.
In the case of "a" above, many times there is an explanation of the firmware update. Longer battery life, faster time to fix, additional bluetooth cellphone support, etc. It is best to review the list of changes to see if you want to upgrade or not.
In the case for "b", streets change, close and new ones pop up all the time. Using the latest maps will minimize the chance the you'll be sent over a road that either no longer exists, or has been rerouted to somewhere else. A map update may also rely on updated firmware (in "a") or might even automatically update firmware during the process.
Generally, updates almost always solve more problems than they create and add features rather than strip them. Map updates are nice to have - but you may need to balance the need for them with the cost of them. Not performing an update should not make the unit fail to work; unless there is something happening on a much larger scale than just your particular brand / model.

When I turn on my magellan maestro 3200 it just
whether its new or used, this can happen for a few different reasons. sometimes they just freeze up there and then they freeze up when someone has tried to update it and the updated failed before it was finished installing it.
hopefully all it will need is a reset...looking at your 3200, look on the left side of the gps and you will see a hole that you can insert something like a paper clip in..turn on your 3200 and insert a paperclip in the hole and gentle depress the reset until the unit restarts...
if it still will not go past that screen, just let me know and i can tell you if you can and how you can, reinstall the update and or tell you how to get magellan to repair it for you for free.
the reset normally works 98% providing the files are not corrupt

Screen freezes up on model
First of all, what you need to do is to reset your device. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds, then the device will restart, once it restarts, then you will be able to use your device. If that does not work, try to back up your device on your computer, then you format your device and restore the data on it back. That should do the job for you.
