Left headphone stops working

Probably a broken wire, try to isolate where it is at & then cut the wire, strip it back & re-connect & tape it up. To isolate where the break is hook up your headphones & pull, push & twist the wire all the way up to the ear piece till you find a spot where it cuts out or comes on & there is your broken wire.

Well there's not much more

if there is any corrosion in your connections using a pencil eraser to clean the contacts could help. Just take an eraser (like on the back of a #2 pencil) and erase the corrosion from the contact points, both on the headset and on the charging dock. Once the contact points look like new, give it a shot ... this might clean up the power connection and help you out.
If the connection where the headphones meet the charging dock has a spring in it (usually on the charging dock side of the connection) then you might have a worn spring. Sometimes pulling on the spring loaded connector (VERY Gently, to stretch it back to where it should be) can help ... but this is a last resort method as if you pull too hard you can pull the connection too hard and disconnect it inside the dock.
If neither of these works, you will probably have to either bring it to a repair shop and see if they can help, or buy a new charging dock (though if the problem is on the headphone side a new dock might not resolve the issue. If you are able to find a position that you can sit the headphones on the dock that will still charge the phones, you probably just have a dirty or loose connection, though.

My headset was working fine

Good morning, afternoon, evening or night; whatever time of day you are viewing this solution post. Thank you for choosing FixYa to solve your problem. Your Logitech ClearChat Pro USB Headset's volume will not stay at the level you turn it up to, and as a result it keeps rolling back down to a lower sound quality. Your volume control button doesn't solve the problem neither. Well, when a problem occurs, you should first troubleshoot where it's coming from. We will use a method called "Process of elimination". Your headset's volume has two controls: one control is on the headset itself, and the other control is located in the sound settings of the device you have your headset plugged into. With this thought in mind, lets go up to the problem explanation above. You said that the volume control attached to the headset didn't make a difference, this means the you can eliminate the hypothesis that it's the volume control causing this. The problem is coming from the earphone portion of the headset. Either a mute setting has been activated, volume is turned down real low or your headset is not the default device to receive sound input. The first part of the investigation is done; now, to get further into the investigation, you will need to connect your headset to your computer. This is where troubleshooting and solving the problem meet. Step-by-Step, I am going to explain to you how to get audio presentations into your headset. This device works with two Windows Operating Systems (Vista and XP) and one Mac Operating System (OS X). If your computer's operating system is Windows, open your Control Panel. Under the Hardware & Sound link, click Manage Audio Devices (for Vista users), and the Sound & Audio Devices link (for XP users). If your coumputer's operating system is Mac OS X, open your System Preferences and click the Sound link. In Windows Vista, click the name of your device, then click Set Default. Click the Properties button and increase the volume slider or unmute the volume if needed. If applicable, click the Apply button, then click OK. If the Apply button is void, just click OK. Click the Recording tab and perform the same procedures as you did before, only difference is that this will make your headset microphone the default recording device. In Windows XP, click the Audio tab and set the headset as the Sound Playback and Recording device. Increase the volume or unmute it if needed. When finished, click the Voice tab and perform the same procedures as you did before. In Mac OS X, click the Input tab and select the headset as the input device. If you still can barely hear anything, increase the volume slider. When finished, click the Output tab and repeat the same steps as before; only thing, you will be making this the sound output device, meaning the sound of your voice will be outputed from the microphone. Increase the volume slider if needed. You should be able to receive sound in and out of your headphones now. If we succeded, through this experience we have: troubleshooted where the problem was coming from, found a way to solve it and fixed the problem! Thank you for choosing FixYa as your one-stop solution spot for problems, questions, concerns and requests. Visit our website again the next time you need assistance with something. Thank you and have a good morning, afternoon, evening or night; whatever time of day you are viewing this solution post.

I did not receive instruction from amazon and

Does not require a battery, gets its power from the USB.
You might start by downloading the manual:
http://www.logitech.com/repository/1412/pdf/12983.1.0.pdf
As long as you have Windows XP SP2 or later, the drivers are already a port of the Operating System.

I have a Logitech USB

Unlikely. There is probably a circuit board inside one ear of the headphones which converts the mic / speaker input / out into digital format for the USB connection protocol.

You would have to wire the mini jack cable directly to the speakers / mic inside the headphones and completely bypass the USB cable and circuit board.

Even then theres no guarantee the mic will be able to function through such a long cable run to the phone without a built in amplifier in the headset.

Good luck anyway.

Want to turn off logitech headset and turn on monitor speakers

I know this works on Windows XP:
Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio Tab
Select your normal input/output from the dropdown list (not the one that says Logiteck USB headset)
Important step - Close the program you were trying to change the audio for, and open it again. It should work. If not, leave it for a minute and try again.

You need to download or install the drivers for the audio. Did the headset come with a CD? IF so install by using the CD. If not go to www.logitech.com and download the appropriate drivers for your headset. Can also go into system, hardware and install/search for driver. BTW do you get a message that new hardware has been installed when you plug in the USB plug to your USB port?
