Turn off by itself
If your radio is aftermarket, it appears that your Battery Constant supply cable is loose, this cable is responsible for keeping the unit's last settings while the ignition is switched to off, check the fuse (if any) and if you cannot locate the issue, contact an auto electrician to arrange repairs, as loose wires can often cause vehicle fires or other damage. if you feel like fixing it yourself, refer to the manual for your head unit for wiring colors, most cases the Battery constant wire is yellow, and ignition power is red, this may vary, so check your manuals.
Delphi XpressRC XM Radio backlight problem
Same thing happened to mine until it permanently went dark - no brightness. Problem is with the LCD display that is defective. As this model does not have a separate filament bulb unlike the non color model, it cannot be repaired. Likely too expensive to replace the color LCD display if avalaible. Next one I buy will be a non color version which has separate bulb.

First, turn the radio on and off using the POWER button on the radio - do not just turn off the car or unplug it. Next, make sure your 'sleep timer' isn't set. Next, check your antenna signal level and make sure you're in a location that has at least 2 bars - move until you do.
Now, make sure that you leave the radio ON Channel 1 for at least a half an hour. You should then have your channels back - when you do get all your channels back, turn the radio on and off with the POWER switch, not by unplugging the unit, or pulling it out of the dock or turning off the car. Okay?

This problem is caused due to the fact that xm has designed there radios to completely shut off all power with the unit therefore the unit once off will not be able to recieve information from the remote. This manufacturing defect was confirmed by the xm representative, they also explained that the company is currently planning to fix this issue on the new 2009 model xpress rc
