Other Bravia's are showing similar faults on this site.
Warranty or Insurance time
My Sony Bravia XBR 52in will not stay on and red light is blinking.
These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

Sony 52xbr4 screen flickering
Fault with the main power supply regulator board. Ubnormal DC voltage output from it. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and precious time.
Sony bravia xbr has red vertical lines going through it
Try changing the input device to something you are sure, works such as a DVD player. Switch off TV manually, switch off power, remove plug and retry after 48 hours. If problem persists, please refer it to a qualified service technician.
How do I remove a sony 52" bravia xbr from the stand
I can't say for sure, but I have an KDL 46XBR5 and it may be similar to the 52". The stand is most likely being held in place beneath the back cover like the unit I have. After you unplug the tv, lay it on a flat surface with a very soft clean blanket so you don't scratch it up. Place the television face down with the stand facing you. Now if you look very closely, you may see little arrows (they look like this : -->) and little triangles all over the place. Disregard the triangles altogether, but remove all of the screws that have little arrows (again, they are the ones with he "->" pointing to the screw. There could be anywhere from 16 to 24 screws. Make sure you put them back exactly where they came, there are usually different sizes). A piece of cardboard with a rough diagram drawn with marker helps, just push the screws into the cardboard where they line up on the tv. Once you remove the back cover, you will see the stand has two large brackets screwed into the back of the television. They are vertical from the bottom. I have attached diagrams showing the removal of the back panel as well as the bracket for my KDL46XBR5. YOURS MIGHT LOOK DIFFERENT but should be somewhat similar or at least give you an idea to go byNote: If I am not mistaken, there are two black insulated copper ground wires connected to the bracket. If you disconnect the brackets, you will need to figure out where to reconnect these ground wires most likely or remove them altogether. Hope this helps
Sony XBR4 - 46 inch Double Imaging and 1/2 screen dark
We have a SONY XBR4 and we are experiencing the same issues. When you turn on the TV, the right side is dark, then there is shadowing with movements. After about 15 minutes the picture is fine. Sometime shortly after you will get a dark area in the middle of the screen (this doesn't happen all the time). I called SONY, they were not helpful at all. They told me because the TV was not under warranty - it is only a year and a half old, they couldn't do anything for me. We had one of their service people come out to look at it. They basically told us its the panel and it has to be replaced. The cost is $2000. NEVER BUY SONY AGAIN!!! You might as well go and buy a new TV.
How do I exit Display
I understand that the TV is in Demo mode. Please
click hear to view the information to resolve the issue. Please click on the sub link on the page to get the instructions to perform resetting of the TV.
Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require any clarifications.
We are using Netflix instant
Netflix doesn't cost much but you do have to pay for it. $7.00 a month for streaming and 8.00 if you want DVD's. If you are a memeber Netflix will help you @ netflix.com. Your tv has to be hooked to the internet.
We have a 52" Sony
This problems alway the causing of the board, that call the T-CON decodering board it is dying. This T-CON decodering board alway sit in the middle at the bottom of the LCD screen panel.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a rrefurbish T-CON decodering board for the replacement.
Had power fluttering this morning. Now have sound
Usually when the power fluctuates a significant level, it can seriously mess with electronics. This is why there are surge protectors; they protect against the levels of power that surge through the lines when the power comes back on. If your TV got hit with this unprotected, it's more than likely you fried your video processor in the TV. You can try to call Sony to see what they may be able to do, but I'd be willing to bet it's too far gone now.
I have a 46 inch
Sounds like the tcon (timing control) board. Sometimes unplugging the LVDS cables from the tcon, cleaning and reconnecting solves this. The catches on the LVDS cables are easily damaged and must be handled carefully.
My sony tv turns on and off on its own it also
I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.
Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV
up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors.
Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although
were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of
preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected
due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.
Hope this helps
I have 46 inch sony
Hi,
I
am afraid I have some bad news for you, I honestly feel bad giving it
to you because I know its not what you want to hear. Hopefully if you
follow my advice you can get a good outcome here.
I
believe there is about a 98% chance you have a bad LCD panel, without
physically diagnosing the tv I cannot be 100% sure but I am very sure
that you do have a bad LCD panel. The LCD panel, if you don't already
know is the actual viewing surface for the television. The reason this
is such bad news is that the part cost is over $1200, and labor is
around $400 to have one installed. This is most likely more money than
it would cost to purchase a new set today.
Now the only
thing I can suggest to you is to call Sony and complain. I have seen
many people get a positive result by working with sony, especially since
the tv is only 3 months out of warranty. What you will need to do is
first get a sony authorized service center to come out to your home (you
can find one on sony's website) they will need to give you a written
estimate with the parts and labor broken down. Once you have that paper
you can call Sony and begin working with them to get the repair fully
covered. I cannot guarantee you that they will fix it, but I have seen a
lot of people call Sony and work their way up the ladder and end up
with the repair being fully covered.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
