My daughter's was doing this too! It turned out there was a short in the wire that hooked to the TV. We bought a replacement and it was fine.

hi there...try to check the adoptor and the connector if its conncted to the tv.then try to turn it on...

You need to use the composite (Red, White, Yellow) connections that come with the Vtech. Once connected you will probably need to change your TV to use the 'EXTERNAL' input source.

some time if the game not all the way in it willnot cut on. there maybe dust it the game hold

you don't need the adapter but it's cheaper than changing batteries all the time.

This system can be frustrating because if you don't do things in the right order, it won't work. I wrote the instructions in permanent marker on the side of mine. Start with the TV and Vsmile OFF
step 1) put the cartridge in and make sure it is all the way in.
step 2) turn the TV on
step 3) turn the Vsmile on
if it still doesn't work you may have to take the batteries out and it seems to clear and then follow the steps again. It is easier to buy an adapter instead of batteries so if you need to clear it you just unplug it and start over. Good luck!

There are problems with the power adaptors. Did you use a VSmile power adaptor, or something that just seemed to fit the unit? Using the wrong power adaptor (like unknowingly plugging a Leapfrog power adaptor) into the unit can cause damage to the Vsmile Board.
Push and hold the power (smile) button for one minute, then install fresh batteries. if it powers back up, then try:

Dirty Smartridges (the game cartridges) are to blame for about 90% of VTech Vsmile products not powering up.
In some instances, the cartridge slot on the unit itself can become damaged and will cause no power up.
Kids (of all ages) can dirty a smartridge in less than a second, and render the whole system dead.

does the controler take batterys make sure controler is pluged in all the way if all else fails maybe a damaged wire under the plastic since the controler is not wireless the little wires under the plastic are prone to breaking it may have a warranty to it there should be a number on the box or station itself

Remove all Smartridges, controllers, adapter or batteries.
Examine the Smartridge slot for loose objects, Blow into it to
remove dust or debris.
Pull back the plastic sleeve on the Smartridge and clean both sides
of the metal contact with alcohol and a q-tip.
Insert the Smartridge into the Smartridge slot and remove quickly
twice without turning on the V.Smile unit.
See if that will help.

There are lots of issue with this toy, try to check the batteries 4 "AA" batteries, and the connection to the tv is properly secure.
